Neither good nor bad. We all realize there are many play styles, but certainly one motivation for some players of any MMO is competitive. Compete to do many raids, for the best gear, etc. Speed runs, short manning, etc. are just an extension of this.

Certainly we are seeing more of this recently because there hasn't been any new content, but thats not a sign of impending doom. If anything theres a certain amount of optimism that players are inventing new ways to enjoy an old game while waiting for more.

Wrigley, I'm part of that percentage that plays for the competitive side of the game. I understand the interest.

There is a difference between "Players like the game so much that they are finding alternative to maintain their interest." and "Players are so bored that they have to try to find something new to not get awfully bored of they game they love so much." DDO, most of us will agree, is an awesome game with lots of potential. However, when we have to keep finding new alternative to keep any interest in the game... how long will that last?

If players are that bored now, how long do you think 3 quests can hold them?

As long as it will take to twink and cap the new character slot

Depends on the quests to some extent. Shroud held even the most competitive of us for many months. If the new slotted armor, named loot, etc. has anywhere near that interest I'm sure we will all manage to still be here till Mod 9. If it doesn't we may all be doing Goodblade speed runs just to complete our scorecards.

The Screenshots were lost when the forums got reset. Maybe Incubo has a copy of it...

Don't know about you guys but I have the most fun in quests and raids when it goes smoothly with minimal downtime. Provided these speed runs continue it will definitely inspire hope in that we, at least on thelanis, can actually have a life outside of ddo without having to make the choice between waiting for a shroud to fill up and hoping that the group will complete in less than hour or to go out with friends to watch a movie and be social.

Nothing's so disheartning as a quest taking two or three times the expected length of time due to poor planning and sloppy execution. Sometimes when the party leader takes 40 minutes "discussing/hemming and hawing" about the best way to approach a part of a raid *cough*shroudpt2*cough* I must admit that I get a little frustrated and entertain the thoughts of pulling a leroy jenkins.

so yay speed runs. definitely makes for a happier wife and cuts down on the "are you done yet?" conversations.

What do you want included in the speed run record?

    Raids only?
    Quests?
    Solo runs?

Cow has some impressive solo runs. Ghosts of perdition normal 10 minutes solo, coalescence chamber elite 16? minutes solo. The threads for those should still be around somewhere.

Some of the older stuff is probably gone by now. i.e. ghosts of perdition elite, 6 minutes in mod 5. But people should be able to stomp that now, after mod 6 & 7.
