The following web error occurred while trying to access
    "http://gls.ddo.com/GLS.DataCenterServer/Service.asmx":

The request failed with HTTP status 417: Expectation failed. 10/17/2008 11:12:04 PM
417's an odd one... the launcher must be specifying an expectation that isn't being met for some reason. Not common with regular browser-type http traffic.

Shot in the dark, I realize, but any chance you're using some sort of proxy? If so, I'd disable it and try again. I know that's probably not very helpful. =( Good luck with the issue.

I don't work until after 3pm or would have replied sooner

First please try removing any firewall exceptions and readding them, also try resetting your router if you use one and your modem to see if it may be some sort of network related issue. This can also be proxy or software filter related (the 417 error )

so correct me if wrong but what I hear you saying is.......................

basicly turn off your firewall (which can usually be accomplished by right clicking the icon for it, be it Mcafee, Nortans or whatever) Just plain turning it off may be easier than telling the filter to allow DDO in.

Then restarting your modem & router to see if its working properly andpossibly connecting directly to the modem to see if it works without the router in place. Trying to eliminate harware errors.

Is that what you are saying or something else?

No, Remove DDO from the firewall lists, and then re add DDO to the list. Alt is not asking for firewalls to be removed/turned off at this point.

Correct. ISPs will change setting without notifying customers, let alone the tables held in the modem memory may need to be updated. Not all modems are created equal. Doing this helps CS set up an exact start point to help pin point issues. Aka starting at point A vs. point G.

    Default No help in sight

I have done all above and even removed DDO from firewall and PC. I reinstalled DDO and I get

    Data Center Error

The following web error occurred while trying to access:
    "http://gls.DDO.com/GLS.DataCenterServer/Services.asmx":

The request failed with the HTTP status 417 : Expectation failed.

I am at a total loss as to why all of sudden I can no longer get onto DDO. Odds are it is fate telling me that my 2 years on DDO is up. As of Monday if I cannot get this going and a full near week of trying to get the issue fixed with no answer I am reclined to cancel my subscription. I have no choice, I cannot play so why should I pay and/or waste hours and days on something that obvious is going to not work again. I honestly want to know how and why it happen. I want to know what changed on my pc or DDO side to have caused me to be so ****ed off right now! I have never in 2 years EVER ran into this type of error...ever! As I have used all info on this website and advice from people on here.....I have a feeling knowing my luck......I will never be able to play DDO again because of this "ERROR 417".

Sorry to see that nothing is helping so far Shadow.

A couple of more ideas that you may or may not have tried yet (figure you have, but worth a shot).

    1) Try connecting your computer directly to the modem, bypassing the router.
    2) Try turning off the firewall completely.
    3) If you have access to another computer, laptop or desktop, try installing DDO on it and seeing if you can connect on it from your home network.
    4) And last and hopefully not necessary, you may need to completely reformat your computer.

Wish I could offer more help.
I know its frustrating, and I don't blame you for being p*ss*d off.

If he can still access Risia, then its not a network issue. Did you turn on DX10 on Risia?

    Default Checking.......

sry so long in getting back on here.. I am going to check my DX right now and see which one is running. Didn't think of risia running 10 even tho I knew the support was on the way. BTW before I check thankyou for responding. It is somewhat ridiculous that there is pretty much no customer support on weekend (which is when most people like myself, who work, so that I can pay for a game like this play the game). Looking now................................... well I had no Idea how to find dx10 on my vista.. pos
I am gonna try reinstalling 9 and hope for the best. Oh yea.. I do have an internet connection. I am not your typical nUb.. I am a whole new breed. Completely dumbfounded because everything worked last night and I hadnt changed anything. Honestly I dont remember if I logged back on to the main server after Risia. Hopefully directx is the issue. ty once again and I will msg back whether it is good or bad news.

Ok no dice. All I know is that it worked before and now it doesnt. sooo I am backing up files and wiping this vista into non existence. If only I had an xp disc to use instead of putting vista back on it. I think you are probably right about the dx10 issue. but I also get "add game failed". I figured that just meant it didnt add the game to my "windows games" but it isnt showing in program files from start up as it should so I think it is not installing properly. This will take a couple hours to do then I will get back on and let ya know if it worked. GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! VISTA MUST DIE!

Are you installing from hard copy or digital? If you are doing digital, there may be a file variance that is happening in the D/L. Not too sure what to do about it though. I've had it happen several times where the game wouldn't launch or wouldn't download properly. After four or five downloads, poof, something snaps into place and it works again...

    If your location is correct...

    "Location: Fujian, Fuzhou, China???"

That could explain a LOT right there. It may not be Turbine but your own government. I suggest you list your country and ISP for CS as I know for some Aussies they have to change settings.

    Default fixed?

Ok, first off I am not in China...I was just being a smart *ss a few months ago and never changed my location. Second, I have not done anything more to my pc or game since yesterday as I let it be to research my butt off on my problem. Seems it comes down to us players to work out things ourselves which is refreshing we are so indepndent but realible...we look out for each other. What I found out is that Http status 417 is a error that is in place because of an exceptation not being met on the server end of it. Translation, DDO servers are being redone and they our changing the workings between what they put out and what our side takes in. Odds are that they are not asnwering much on the weekend because they are right now chaging over things. My game is being downlaoded as I type on both game and test server. It will take awhile to reupdate my stuff, but at least I know it sort of working ( when I am in game only then will I know for sure). I know it is not my ISP, I know this because my wife runs the cities major ISP. If any changes happen, I know weeks before hand or within a reasonable time. Thanks for all the help just the same, I hope to be on within 6 hours or so

    Default yay

Yes it was Risia that did it. I wont mess with it again until after the main servers are updated. My biggest issue since my last post is that I didnt see a link for the High Rez download on the dl page and it took me a while to track one down elsewhere. Thankyou to everyone who offered advice, I am back in Ghallanda again. and hell, the computer needed a clean install anyhow :/

If you're running vista, I ran into the same problem on Thelanis about 4 months ago. I had to create another account on the computer, then download and run vista under that. That was the only thing I found that would allow me to run both the DDO client and the Risia Client on Vista. Not sure if everyone has this issue, but it's what I ended up having to do after 14 or so tries/installs.

try making a new windows user account then playing, a 417 error is not something we would cause that would effect 1 person, if it was server side everyone would have the error.
