Best thing to do is add the name to your friends list. If you see information (race, class or guild) that means have been used in the last months, if nothing but the name appears, it might be lost in a cancelled account from long ago. But if you really want to see and keep an eye on the name, always keep it in your friends list.

My first mmo guild was in Asheron's call, Sir Killl's monarchy nicked named 'The Deadz'.

I have used the name in various mmo's as my way of honoring the Guild i guess, even though it's been long since i ran with them, but those days were a few years of my life.
