Default Mod 8...worth the wait?Pls give feedback (no risia) Friends are leaving..

So i just woke up to another goodbye post.

How is risia looking guys? Has it been worth the wait? In the past 3 days i have had no less than 5-6 guildies channel members and friends cancel their subscription. And these guys are fantastic players and community leaders. I love this game and rarely post any doom and gloom - but can those who have played on risia let us knw if its going to be enough for me to be able to say 'come back guys and check it out' - or 'hold off for a couple of weeks until its live?'

Im not trying to flame here - would just like a headsup whether il be seeing my buds shortly or in mod 9(5-6months?)

Mod 8 looks real good, new environments (finally some snow), and until we can run some quests on risia...I can´t pass judgement.

People will drop subscriptions and return for sure. Unfortunately (like you) I have seen too many good people drop game due to the huge gap in new material.

Lets hope Mod 8 comes quick and Mod 9 trails shortly after......maybe even 8.1 with a L18 Cap??

I was on Risia for a couple hours last night playing the high level stuff, and it looks pretty good. The raid-flagging grind is hunting down "uncommon" (not rare) drops that bind from the rare encounters in the outdoor areas, and that's going to be a bit annoying.

All the new monsters I saw were just re-skinned versions of something else. The outdoor areas are also easier than the Vale in that a level 15 fighter, level 15 ranger (verbal) and a level 15 Cleric (all woefully underequipped with raid gear and/or anything since Gianthold came out) could easily handle it all. The 3 new dungeons were all closed so we couldn't see what they were like.

That said, if they don't fix the lag it won't matter. See my rant here for more on the lag.

The development cycle is killing our circle of friends bro.

I dunno the answer. I might join you, perhaps, in some server hopping....

First TF went to WAR, and now this lag frustrates the **** out of AM.

It's starting to be more appealing to just stay logged into Vent than DDO

We ahve to grind rare encounters to get into the new raid? Wow, Turbine just continues to make this game worse and worse. At least when they used the bound token approach in Necro the drops were at known locations and reasonably common...and even that was annoying. I thought they learned their lesson since they went the exact opposite way with Hound and VoD.

Grind is not equal to content. Grind = players quitting.

Well, it's really not that bad. If you find the Rare, it seems that the "Gem" has a high chance of dropping. I think we only ran into 1 Rare Encounter of the 6 in the zone, and the gem dropped for all 3 of us in the party.

From our quick foray it doesn't sound that bad,the new outdoor areas are not that large, and the drop rate seemed fairly high(one chest had a gem for all of us). the draconic runes , which have no purpose that Turbine has revealed dropped fairly regularly as well and can drop in stacks in one chest I got a stack of 3

Default low-level is no longer Kobolds and Ooze Online

personally, i think mod8 does a fine job of capturing the D&D feel for new players, in addition to a (much needed) better tutorial. is this mod going to be reason enough for old players to return? i highly doubt it. that's what mod9 is for.

hopefully mod8 marks the final mod aimed at bettering the low level game, for awhile at least. We're about due for 2 or 3 content and class balance mods.

Funny thing is though....it's not a grind!

    Surprise!

If you think finding an encounter and all 3 people in the party get the item they need is "grinding", then you should stop playing video games.

    Hey Nic,

Testsed out the new charchter creation, seems pretty good.. the new lowbie experience is great for new charcthers. Hirelings, takes abit to get use too but, I think they will work out fine.

GT and Teleport Scrolls/Royal Guard Mask now have Meridia as a destination.

Checked out the new explorer areas. they seem good to go, however, can not get into any of the higher quests(so can't tell ya much there)

Overall, if your new to the game, it will hook them at creation imo... As far as high end content, what I saw looks great, just dont know about the quests.

Iv'e been considering doing a server hop with Cash.. just to see some of the other worlds/playstyles. (haven't decided yet though)

    See ya l8r Nic...

FYI, Ghllanda is still a hoping server if you are looking for a new one. High player knowledge, low economy costs, good guilds, etc.

well i tried it out last night nick the new lowbee area is cool but i completed everything in about 1 1/2 hours solo no tweeking there either, hirelings were funny like coyle before they fix him crazy zerging gimps. the new high lev area was very cool it could keep me entertained for couple weeks all depends on the dragontouched armour creation and how much grinding will be needed. so i dont know if i will stay or not if turbine can get it on live server by the 26th oct might keep me here and if they fix this lag issue,by the way we had some lag on risia as well spells not going off things like that all i can say is maybe some of us will stay maybe not

Coyle should have had hirelings like the NPCs at the beginner's area. They kick serious butt. In one quest, you have to convince an old fart to help against the dragon and him and his wf bodyguard fight with you against waves of fish guys in a room you might recognize, full of pieces of the wf titan. It's a hoot because you want to treat them like live players, so you find yourself playing to them, helping them double team opponents and defending them during the fight.

The AI on the NPCs that fight alongside you is not too shabby.

Puzzles are all over, but not too annoying. Traps are fewer than the previous starter quests, but there's some. Not a single kobold to be found anywhere that I've seen yet. Just lots of fish and that death flop they do like the bearded devils.

The atmospherics, the time of day changes, the NPCs who wander randomly about making you actually have to hunt them down to talk with them... Very good stuff.

Spent about a dozen hours on Risia yesterday. New Player area will be a hit, the named items will have me doing it for every toon i think, even tho i originally didnt want to. Will take a little longer to level than im use to, and ill probably group up to do it quicker, even tho i like to solo to level three or four to get an idea if the toon is gonna work the way i want, but those items are too yummy to pass up if i can get them.

The three outdoor areas are where its at, small, concise, not difficult at all. My tank from year ago can only manage 53 ac on Risia and he solo'ed fairly well. The only thing that really wrecked him was the bats, and the gnolls once i ran into them because i wasnt properly buffed.

New quests arent letting us in, but with what ive seen so far it seems theyll be fine, and of course a fourth high level area that i knew nothing about is reported to exist, possible entrance area to preraid/ raid.

For us powerplayers, itll never keep us busy, however i've said before, nothing they do will ever keep us busy, i hope as well the new armor will be worth re-running some content, although i think i'm actually a bit upset cause every mod, whatever armor i have seems to be replaced quickly by the next. Be rather upsetting, should i decided to jump in for the VOD armor, if the new armor is more appealing, then again, i like choices so mebbe not so bad.

Like I had mentioned in the tread "New Game Box for mod 8", it no longer represents the product they are selling. Example. Inside the Game box cover is a picture of an adventurer standing in front of a large door.

The text below the picture reads "Undertake exciting D&D quests that focus on adventure, not grind."
