    Default Does Seeker Really Work???

    All,

I need some help here.. I have a Longbow (as a longbow, the critical hit roll is 20, and the dam is X3) with +4 Seeker on it.

    The description states:
Seeker +4: Provides a +4 enhancement bonus to confirm critical hits, and a +4 enhancement bonus to critical damage (before multipliers are applied).

If I understand this properly, then the following should be true:

    • Normally, a 20 is needed to score a critical hit with my bow. But, the seeker +4 means that a 16 or higher should register a critical hit
    • If I register a critical hit, and roll an 8, the dam should be: (8 + 4) X3 = 36.

I was out using the bow looking for this, but only saw a critical hit when a 20 is rolled.

Am I missing something? Do have have this right?

    Thanks in advance

The extra bonus is to confirm a critical hit, and the damage that it does there after.

Not the actual 1st roll required to start a critical. Thus your bow still requires a 20 to crit, but the confirmation roll after the 20 is at a +4 more.

Nope, to have a critical hit you must first do two things:
    1) Attack the mob and have your weapon roll within its critical threat range and hit the mob. In your case it is a 20.
    2) You must confirm the critical hit by rolling again and simply hitting the creature. The seeker affect works here and you would get a +4 bonus to hitting the mob the second time to confirm.

Seeker +4 on a bow will add 12 damage to the normal critical. 8 x3 = 24+12 = 36 damage in big red numbers.

A critical hit requires two rolls:

First, a roll to hit. If this roll is in the weapon's critical threat range, a second roll is required.
Second, a roll to confirm. This is a second to-hit roll. If it succeeds, you have a crtical hit. Seeker adds to this roll.

You will still only threaten critical hits on a 20 attack roll.

Are you looking at the d20 on your screen, or at the combat log? If i remember correctly the confirm d20 roll does not show up on screen, but it will be in the combat log. So what you may be seeing is the initial hit with a 20 roll on you combat die, and the confirm roll is hidden in the combat log.

The effect that increases the actual threat range roll is Keen. It typically doubles your chance to crit. Therefore, the threat range on your bow would be 19-20. This will be reflected in the weapon description.

Thanks all for the excellent clarification. I did not understand that there is a 2nd critical hit roll - and I was looking at the d20 on screen. I will look into the combat log.
