    Default Help from the Ubers!

    I am currently playing around with the idea of a 2 monk/6 ranger/12 cleric build for when the cap gets raised to level 20.

    I am just unsure if this tempest based, high ac ranger would be better than a cleric/monk combo.

    I am not really sure about the fighting mechanics of the monk, but am aware that a 9monk/11 cleric could be potentially awesome on paper. Improved Evasion, Heal, Commetfall, along with the extra feats the monk get I think at 1, 3, 5, and 6. My concern for this type of monk would be: Would I have enough SP endgame if I wanted to make a dwarf with high dex/god con/and 14 wisdom for awesome hitpoints and the dwarven sp line OR would I have to go halfling for the higher dex (weapon finesse on any race I choose) and maybe the marks for heals because my sp would be lower?

    Or would a drow make sense because of improved resistances along with the increased dex and the fact that I dont have to wait to unlock the 1750.

    I want my cleric to be able to heal good and fight decent with high ac and survivability thru the improved evasion. If I cant accomplish this, would say a 17 cleric 3 monk give me a good finesse fighter for the 3 extra to wisdom you get at level 3 thru the monk stance.(I think I am correct but could be wrong).

    The monk/cleric combo wisdom enhancements would give me a total of 5 extra if I took the monk to level 9. If I took monk to level 3, my total wisdom enhancements would be 4.

    If I went dorf.....would say a 18 dex/16con/14 wisdom be the way to go....endgame that computes to a dexterity of 30 with a plus 2 tome. Would that be high enough to hit the end game mobs with consistency with weapon finesse or would making a halfling or drow be needed for that THACO because of the addeded dexterity to race bonus?

    I know I am all over in this post and I apologize. I just would like to see the forum cleric "Gods" make one ass kicking cleric/monk, with the pros and cons between dwarf/halfling/drow and the pros and cons of making say a 17 cleric/3 monk or a 11 cleric/9 monk that can survive, do some damage, and be an incredible asset healing wise to the party.

    In all seriousness, I can not recommend the 11/9 route. Most people are going to take one look at your build and decline you from groups. It may turn out to be an amazing build, but people who want a cleric want someone who can be a primary healer. Please do not misunderstand me, I am not saying that your character will be unable to cast heals. I am saying that if the content were level 20, they (whoever they turns out to be) would not want a lvl 11 cleric in the group as their primary healer. Additionally, you can only take wisdom enhancements from a single line, so cleric OR monk, but not both.

    If you take dwarf, you want to be strength based for melee, not finesse/dex. Elf, Drow, and Halflings are better choices for finesse because they get a racial dex enhancement. They will also have higher reflex saves for evasion due to their higher dex. Your points from leveling, however, should be put into wisdom if your main class is cleric.

    The monk stance that grants +3 to a stat is at lvl12. The lower 2 stances only give you a +2 and at that point only if u r centered (no armor/shield and monk weapons only)

    THAC0 no longer exists. 3.5 ended that. Negative armor class is no longer a good thing.

    If you went dwarf, 16str, 14dex, 16con, 14wis would be the way to go if your main goal is melee, but expect to get hit in combat. Your reflex saves will also be lower than that of a finesse build.

    Drow is ok for a finesse build until you unlock your 1750 favor, but your best weapons (rapiers/shortswords) will keep you from being centered (drow are a 28pt build even when you unlock 32 point builds because 4 points are preassigned)

    The 17/3 cleric/monk would be the better of the two. I would not play a cleric that can not be an effective primary healer and if you mix in more than a level or 3 of any class, it will excessively limit your ability to fill that role.

    The following is an endgame evasion cleric. It is meant to be a primary healer with evasion, but can be specced differently.

    Addendum: It is a 32 point build, so you will need to move some stats around. Also, the 6str is low and puts you at risk from ray of enfeeblement, if you do not want to burn a +2 str tome at character creation, bump it up to 8-10

    in regards to the 11/9 you might be better off going pure monk as a halfling and getting the dragonmarks of healing. But honestly you're not missing much by going 18 cleric/2 monk; you're reflex will be fine enough where you wont need improved evasion, and AC wise you'll be just fine.

    Trying to grab tempest also I think is doing too much, its feat intensive, and you would be neglecting the cleric side of your character by getting mobility and spring attack. It would make for a fun solo build, but most things that you would swing a weapon at you could also kite in a BB for more damage. The twf and tempest would be nice to swing at raid bosses, but you'll have to tell the party that you'll be a DPS spot and not a dedicated healer. Regardless you'd probably at best be mediocre at melee and casting with such a deep multiclass.

    Basically my main goal is a healing cleric. I will admit my highest level cleric atm is 10...that being said, for the content that I play, I feel I do a very good job at healing and love to heal. I guess the main reason I want to build a fighting (healing cleric) is I just flat out love the aoe heals.....so I figure being in the mix and doing some monk damage with say vorpal kamas) to stay centered while blasting off mass cures would be awesome.

    The reason I was thinking dorf...is because the toughness line is just so inviting and I would probably spec 2-3 toughness on the monk side of feats to grab some nice hitpoints....

    As a dedicated healer, I would use my sp for healing period....well that and some buffs....so I am not sure I would have to keep my wisdom at the highest levels for spells like greater command..etc....

    I wanted to go 3 monk because the extra monk feat but if 18/2 would be better endgame then I am all for it....

    Keep the tells coming it helps a lot when trying to decide if this idea is worth exploring or stick to the cleric 20).

    They are modifying the toughness enhancement line for dwarves. The AP:HP ratio is the same as it is now till you get to racial toughness4.

    For an endgame healer, you will definitely want to swap your monk feats into toughness. At the same time you can always wait till lvls 19 and 20 to go monk. Find out if the top tier spells will be worth taking first. I run one full capped cleric, one capped cleric/sorc (15/1) and am leveling a cleric/monk.
