I don't expect turbine to be able to help this one out much as it is hardware, but if you guys have suggestions and tips for this, I'd love to hear them.
My wife's 8800 GPU fan stopped working recently. It over heated a few times so I opened up the case to figure out why. Thankfully, I had a spare 7900 laying around so she's still playing.
Of course, it is the type of heatsink fan combo that covers the card, and of course, out of warranty. It is not a two slot type of fan. So my question is, what is the best way to go about fixing this and what issues should I be aware of?
I know they sell GPU fans, but if I understand correctly, I have to get my own ram heatsinks for it as well depending on the style.
Or would it be better to contact the manufacturer to see if I couldn't just order a replacement fan?
When replacing the heatsink/fan combo's are there any gotcha's I should be aware of?
I've got Artic Silver laying around so heatsink compound isn't an issue. I put together my own systems, but I've never had to mod a GPU card before.
