    Default Video Card for DX10?

I will probably buy a new video card soon.

I bought a whole new setup last December; everything about it is great except I skimped on the graphics card. I figured I would wait until DDO supported DX10 and get a better card for less money if I waited a year.

DDO is the main game that I play. Now that DX10 is here, I want to get the best card that I can. My budget is let's say ~$250.

I am a total know-nothing, but somebody told me that running a particular benchmark well doesn't always mean a card is best for the application you are going to use it for. Are there cards that will specifically run DDO better?

Could anyone make some knowledgable reccomendations?

While I don't claim to be an expert, check out ATI's latest offerings. The Radeon 4870 is a fantastic performer for money spent and is probably right around your price range. I have one, myself, and am very pleased with it.

IF DDO is the main game you play then go to newegg.com and get a Nivida 8800GT made by evga. 160 bucks maybe even less now and this card will do you very well. This is the card i use and i play more than just DDO, i play much more demanding games like Crysis, Call of duty 4 and other system hog games and i run them at high setting with no problems. The only think you need is a PCI-Express 16 slot on your motherboard and a power supply with a 6pin connector (might be 4) to go straight to the card. Im going to assume that your going to have to buy a new power supply to to be able to run a larger card like the 8800gt or really any top of the line card that is out right now. rosewill makes a really good PSU thats 550watts or so and will have everything you need for around 60 bucks i think. Those two will stay under your price range and serve you well for years.
