Ebberon is the world DDO is based in.

I recommend the dreaming dark series by keith baker (creator of the world) and the draconic prophesy series by james wyatt. Both quality sets of books.

    Default A few good books...

If you want to get a better feel for Eberron, Keith Baker's Dreaming Dark series is a good place to start. After all, Keith is the progenitor of the Eberron realm, in which Stormreach exists and DDO takes place.

*HOWEVER*, despite the fact that Keith's books tell a decent story, the are *REPLETE* with spelling, grammatical and editorial errors. Enough so, that it completely interrupts the story in some places. Like the one where an entire paragraph is repeated. It can be confusing at times. Whoever it was at Wizards of the Coast who was responsible for editing this series, they should've been fired before the first book went to press. If you can get past the excessive technical errors, though, there's a good story in there.

I would *highly* recommend the Draconic Prophecies by James Wyatt, though. I just finished the first book, Storm Dragon, and his story is *very* well told *and* the technical presentation of the book is superior. You're never left re-reading anything because of poor editing. The story flows very well, and I really look forward to the second book in the series.

One thing I've noticed so far, though... the authors spend very little time in or around Xen'drik. So, if you expect to hear from someone you know in Stormreach, or see any of the areas you know from the game, don't hold your breath. I haven't read anything that really touches on what we know within the confines of Turbine's servers.

Perhaps someone will take on that task somewhere down the road...

Actually, Keith Baker's books spend a lot of time there. They spend a few chapters in Stormreach and PoP is pretty much the setting for the last fight in the third book. His books also explain the existence of docents and what they really are.

There is also The Last War, which is a collection of short stories from various authors. Some of them are pretty good but some of them are terrible. I'd say its worth the pick-up though, if you enjoy reading DnD fiction.

James Wyatt's first book set in Eberron, "In the claws of the Tiger" also takes place in Xendrik. It's a pretty good read.

When I see "books", I first think of rule books.
Among those, I'd recommend Eberron Campaign Setting and City of Stormreach, out of which you can start figuring out what the world is like. Personally, my favorite is Secrets of Sarlona. The darkest continent of Eberron where everyone thinks they embrace the light.
