    Default Monk Critique

I am planning to build a monk once i hit 1750 and been tinkering around ... This is the best one ive come up with so far ... Any help would be appreciated ... Id rather not bring equipment and things into it at all since that will be come and go stuff but id like a solid base build to go by. a couple tweaks that would involve tomes are fine, but none that take like a ton of tomes :P I wasnt sure what all to take for feats so i just ended up taking a ton of Toughness. No multiclassing either .. i plan to keep her Pure.

Dex is too high; you're just wasting points. I prefer 16's in the 4 major stats, but you could take 18 dex, bump con to 12 and str or wis to 16. I would also change some enhancements, but you'll see when you get there.

I agree with Feynman. I have tried high strength monks and high dex monks and did not like either. The only monk build I have thoroughly enjoyed from level 1 to 16 was quite balanced, with a bit of a focus on dex and wis. I would take at least two points out of dex and use that to drop another 4 or so points into other stats, probably wisdom and constitution, maybe strength.

Also, come Mod 8, TWF feats will work with unarmed strike. I would strongly recommend finding a place in your build for as many of the TWF feats you can. I would drop most or even all of your toughness feats (maybe keep one as your HP is pretty low - but if you build your monk correctly a crazy AC, improved evasion, and high saves should prevent a lot of damage; you also probably won't be doing enough damage to pull aggro and you don't have intimidate; you also have displacement dragonmarks if things get hairy - this all makes hp slightly less important).

Stunning Fist is another monk feat to consider taking. It's too expensive and not reliable enough to use early on, but somewhere around 8-12ish I REALLY started to have fun with it. It's a blast in the Vale if you can get your hands on some banishing handwraps (or rather, get some banishing handwraps on your hands =P).

I haven't been on in a while so I'm having trouble remembering exactly which feats I chose, but Improved Crit (bludgeoning or slashing depending on what weapons you want to use) is handy, although not quite as important as for other characters. Power Attack and Combat Expertise are both great choices, but for CE you will need a base intelligence of at least 13 (including tomes). By level 16 with some good gear your AC will probably be at the point where you won't need CE, but it's very helpful while you don't have the nice gear.

Also consider putting skill points into Concentration: it determines how much ki you can maintain without it degenerating. Personally, I keep it maxed, but I also have extra skill points to sparefrom a higher intelligence (for CE) and from being a human.

As for enhancements what you have looks good enough. I would just spend time in game playing with them and seeing what you like. Rise of the Phoenix can be fun and sometimes useful, but it costs a lot of action points and it's expensive to use.

Overall, I would again strongly urge you to remain balanced.

Drop starting dex to 18 saves you 6 stats points Put at least 2 in con to get a 12, and other 4 in Wis fro a 16 woudl work well realize that when you turn on AIR stance (the best stance once they make it stack with haste you will be backl to 20dex and 10con

I'd suggest Haflign over elf my slef guile + size AC and no hit to con are nice. but i see you want dragon marks though the haflign dragon marks are very nice as well

Getitng enough Int for Combat eXpertise woudl not hurt you any, as you AC will be in the range endgame that those 5 points realyl can matter when you want them.

I didn';t se eit by havign PA as a feat coudl replace a toughness as well at trhe aboev combat expertise.

For more feats TWF, ITWF, GTWF next mod they are sposed to work with fists so if you want to use fists not kamas that will work for you.
