Wink Another solution to plat farmers infestation

I suggest to block tells from trial accounts unless they in friend list.

    I.e.
    1. If you have regular account you tells will not be blocked unless person specifically squelched you. ( no changes here ).
    2. If you have trial account your tell will not be accepted by any players by default - unless you added into friend list( or if friend list is not a good place then create new list, but that is more work).

That way ppl who want tried game and still will be able to chat in guild/channel/group or general channel, and if they real ppl they will be added into friend list on request, but direct tells will be disabled by default. As soon as person getting real subscription this restriction will be GONE
I think this approach will finally solve "TELL" problem.

I am not sure how easy or hard this is to implement. But I assume that it is possible unless tells go direct pc->pc without server, in that case for each tell pc will have to ask server "accept tell ?" question - which is more work and extra time to check.

how about trail account can only reply to tells and not start them

they could still ask for help in general but if you responded in a tell they be able to talk with you

    OMFG....

We don't need more ideas for this, we've had a viable idea for OVER A YEAR and Turbine has not implemented it yet.

Plat spam will only end when Turbine decides to act upon the vast array of suggestions/pleas for help made by it's player base or takes a look at some other games for ideas on how to start. To it's credit, Turbine did take steps by stopping mail spam. I would hope they take steps to curtail Tell spam in the future beyond the pretty impotent "report spam" button, but I really don't hold out a lot of hope in that regard. They just don't seem to be interested, or feel it's enough of a problem.

What I don't understand is, what does it really get the spammers, really?

Are there really that many people wandering around the game desiring to buy plat and items but blissfully unaware of, say, going to the hidden, obscure site www.google.com and typing in "DDO plat?"

Are there really that many people who would want to do it but don't know where to go and only know and get really motivated when prompted by hundreds of poorly spelled, hideously grammared blocks of inscrutible yellow text that come streaming past them as they play?

The whole thing just seems so....improbable.

The issue is not that there is demand, but that it's free to spam in-game.

Yea, we do. Turbines theory of "If we hide all the talk about plat spamming in one are of the forums no one goes to, plat spamming will no longer be a problem." Sucks. If you ask me, Turbine has no idea how frustrating plat spam tells have gotten.

So you think that if no one starts a new thread about plat spammers for a little while Turbine will actually think that we're ok with it now? Seriously? And where's this hidden area of the forums? Last I knew, you hit the "New Posts" button and see what's been posted in any thread recently. And I'd say Turbine has a pretty good idea of just how frustrating and annoying plat spam has become.

So instead of starting the 100th freakin thread this month about **** plat spammers and the almighty solution to them, why not just post in one of the threads that already exist. Then maybe the same things won't be repeated over and over and over and FREAKIN' over again....

One other thing... In case you haven't noticed, 99% of these threads usually just end up in a flame war because everyone has a different idea of how plat spammers should be handled.

    Default another option

Put a box everyone can check in options to accept tells from trial accounts. If the box is not checked, no tells. Now the 4 people that actually need them can still recieve tells and the rest of us can lose a little h8...

Default I have a permanent solution

    But... you won't like it.

A reduction in the Plat Cap to 100,000 plat.

Additionally, an increase in the drop rate for all named loot.

Like I said, you won't like it.

Let's make plat something no one has use for!

Out of curiosity, what would be worth something in this game then?

Exactly. Plat spammers would have no choice but to move on.

Only a select few of us in DDO would experience a real change. The rest would conduct business as usual.

Plat isn't really worth anything anymore as it is. Why would a drop in the cap change things?

I've heard lots of suggestions ranging from Check Boxes to enable or disable tells from trial accounts
to Trial Accounts NOT being able to send tells at all etc etc.

Quite frankly, all the suggestions are good.

However, the problem as I see it is this. Anyone can make an account and CREATE NEW CHARACTERS in minutes. They simply CREATE, LOGON, SPAM then DELETE and RECREATE a new name.

    Here's my solution for Turbine.

No matter what character someone is playing, when you SQUELCH them, it should squelch their ACCOUNT, not just that particular character, period. So, let them send me a spam tell and if I CHOOSE to squelch them, then ALL their characters are squelched until I decide to unsquelch them.

I doubt whether the spammers would continue to purchase NEW accounts every day of the month to continue the spam.

    Well... My 2 coppers anyway.
