Plat farmer spam solution idea

How about this

If 5 people report a tell from a trial account as spam inside 1 day they get automatically squelched globaly untill an admin manually unsquelches the account after an valid explanation has been given for the spam.

Stops people being silly/vindictive and reporting their guildies who are on full accounts.

Stops legit trial users from being penalised by not being able to send tells.

Any thoughts?

Currently the CAPTCHA system for requiring a human to register the account is useless due to the plat farmers outsourcing the creating to a third party company.

easy fix..... before you receive a 'tell' you should get a pop-up msg with the following options:

"Accept msg and add (character name) to friends list."
"Politely decline msg from (characters name)."
"Decline msg and Squelch (characters name)."
"Decline msg and Report (characters name)."

Characters on your friends list would not cause the msg to pop up.
Also ...Add a new slash command "/telldecline (response msg)". To automatically decline a tell that would cause the pop-up to activate and reply to sender with a msg. Sort of like the "/AFK" command. This way you can turn off tells while you're in a quest and still be able to receive tells from friends.

Do you know how many **** tells i get a day from new people? Definitely not the way to go.

How about the devs stop RELYING ON THE USERBASE and do something productive on their own.

The "/telldecline" command would help with getting a lot of msgs if your case.

I like the idea that trial accounts can not send tells using /tell. However, if someone sends them a tell like "hey want to do TR", the trial account can respond with /r. Or has the ability to only send tells to characters activity looking for groups or looking for more.


Full account status = full tell capability: /tell & /r no matter what the circumstances are.
trial account = Reply only: /r, send tells using the "send tell" button based on LFM or LFG.

that would severely limit what tells are sent on any server. And it doesn't complete cut off trial accounts that actual players are using.

"click here" to accept tells from free trial accounts

P.S. there are many ways to fix this spam that seems to be getting worse(today I logged in for 1 hour and in that time recieved 7 plat farm tells)
Me and alot of other players are really startin to believe that there is some kinda funny stuff going on.

Please fix this problem!!

Turbine can fix this, they know how. They just chose not to do it because they probably find it too drastic. However, it is the only way.

I use Gmail ^_^ 99.9% Spam filtration

And if your getting SPAM at work you should be slapping your Sysadmin in the face for not having proper filtering rules in place.

Without mail spam (fixed by Turbine) and without /tell spam (easy to fix, but has not been), plat farmers would get less business, maybe even no business.

As a result, they would go out of business in DDO.

As a result, artificial price gouging on the AH would cease.

As a result, we would be able to afford items on the AH.

I very rarely get spam, I use gmail and it is awesome. If I get spam in my work address then someone is using there work address for frivolous activities and will likely lose the privilege or two the email administrator is not doing his job. Since spam can literally bog the network down to a crawl then you would think that this is something Turbine would want to be rid of once and for all, for the benefit of everyone. Have no idea what they are thinking though. So let me ask you, how do you deal with spam in your work account? Because I don't get any either way. Thanks, have fun.

I have a published email address. The spam filter catches about 200-300 messages a day for me, 5 or 6 get through. I could turn it up a notch to stop that 5 or 6 but of course then some "real" messages get caught and sifting through 200 for a good message would defeat the purpose.

I don't believe that for a minute. The prices on the AH are that high because the grinders in this game have more stuff than they know what to do with and more money than they need and thus they are hyper inflating the economy to get that uberitem of their choice.

There are many easy ways Turbine could fight this problem if they choose to. It's clear that they choose not to worry about it... and why should they? It's not as if they're losing any accounts over it. If they were, they would deal with the problem as a priority.

We are talking about DDO, not personal e-mail. And don't you think there are things that annoy you that don't annoy others? Show some empathy, man!

And all those players who buy plat are excluded from your claim here since we all know that they simply hoard all that massive amount of plat on their toons and would never think of buying anything they wanted off the AH, ever. Their bought plat would never be the cause of any hyper inflated or deflated economy in this game or any other game as everyone knows, all that massive amount of plat/gold bought is only there for the buyers to look at. The AH inflation therefore can ONLY be caused by the honest, non-plat buying "grinders". Thanks for showing us the light and educating us to the "truth" oh enlightened one.
