Monks: get WIS bonus to AC, don't rely on armor, and bring tons of other class features.

Warforged Paladins: Get access to Bladesworn Transformation, and with a high WIS and spell buffs, along with the new zeal spell Not to mention high CHA aura boosts, and aura enhancements.

Warforged: Immune to sleep, paralysis, sickness, and have 3 classes that can heal you.

So what's your point about overlapping abilities?

    Having said all of that....

Really consider what you want your character to be. Is he a Monk with Paladin Aura? Is he a DEX based Paladin with monk AC, saves, and water stance? Really think about it, figure out the numbers and consider what it is you bring to the table. Is this combination excelling at something, or is it that the classes compliment each other on something specific?

This has the potential to be a complete and utter disaster that you won't see go beyond level 3. Or a VERY viable character that combines features and traits of the multiclass.

Either way, multiclassing out of monk, you reduce the DC of your finishers, stunning fist, and empty hand damage becomes considerably weaker.

Multiclassing out of Paladins, leaves you with less damaging smites, weaker aura enhancements and less lay on hands.

What you get out of it, is the ability to have something you truely enjoy playing.

I've run it through "the" character builder. And it's a little wonky on it's enhancement selector, but it is a completely viable multiclass.

I'm REALLY tempted on making one my self actually.

I have a paly/mnk but as a elf i must say im haveing a blast with it as a dex based at lev 6(about a rank and ahalf from 7ith) with a 20relf save unbuffd. But i am going more paly then monk(14/2) i am uncentered using rapiers/light picks so i have no stance but if i where to get one i would mostlikly pick water.

As a Warforged paladin/monk I built it up as 6 paladin, 10 monk in the builder.

    10 STR
    16 DEX
    10 CON
    8 INT
    14 WIS
    12 CHA

Having access to blade sworn transformation sets him off, with another +6 to damage, +4 AC, and full fortification. Exalted smites, and all the aura and concentration enhancements help to really push his damage output with dual wielding kamas to really start dishing out the pain in combination with his ki strikes. I also gave him way of the faithful hound to increase his flanking to hit. So he'll rarely miss.
