SHROUD
Finger of Death-A sorc will be asked to take care of the trogs that spawn from the portals. Very important to take them down fast.
Web-Crowd control is paramount in part 2 and 4. Web heightened will hold the orthons and devils for the melee.
Solid Fog and or Acid Fog-Works very well with web for crowd control.
Dancing Ball-Some have dropped this entirely for web, but I find this works very well together with Web. A solid one two .
Fire Shield-optional but a great deal of help with the Pit Fiend and especially the Fire Elemental in Part 2. The elemental can be a great deal of fun. A sorc loaded up with fire protection, fire resist and fire shield can duo the Fire Elemental with a ranger who has evasion. Probably better to also have a cleric along until get better gear and/or experience but that kind of defeats the advantage of having two, freeing up others can be nice if have a hard pull. As for the Pit Fiend, he sometimes throws those double fireballs back to back to back.
Protections and Resists-Good buffs
Haste-Very helpful for the party fighting everything. There are some long battles that drain cleric resources and this will help melee.
Waves of Exhaustion-Spell or the scrolls at least. Scrolls can be purchased at the Portable Hole. Any debuff helps. Waves of Exhaustion and
Solid Fog on the Pit fiend give a nice little combo debuff in addition to other benefits.
Blur and or Displacement-Best armor class for a sorc. I prefer Displacement because it is just better but blur is a longer buff for others.
Fearsome Robes-Very helpful. No one minds at all if something was feared because they were beating up on the sorc.
Heavy Fort-Without this you can be one shot.
Deathblock-Without this you can be beheaded.
Stoneskin-Spell or wands. Wands can be purchased at The Twelve.
Polar Ray-forget it. No point in trying to dps the pit fiend or much of anything for that matter Except...
Disintegrate- Need to break a crystal in Part 3. This is the best spell for that. One shot, no save. You can use other spells but those will take more than one shot. The extra time could reset Part two and the group will have to start all over. When the time comes to break the crystal everybody knows lol, and counts the seconds waiting to hear it explode. Absolutely needed? Not.
Greater Heroism- Spell or scroll. Scrolls in the Portable Hole but the spell allows you to give this valuable buff easily to other party members who can use the +4. However, not usually necessary to buff party members. Usually a wizard or bard can cast this. Most are understanding that a sorc may not have room for this.
UMD-Sorcs will find themselves out of healing range and will need to be able to cast Heal Scrolls on themselves and sometimes party members.
Sleet Storm-Some parties like to use Sleet Storm in part 4 but this seems to be losing some attractiveness. Scrolls are fine and are in the Marketplace.
Knock-Can help tremendously with Part 3 but not necessary as a rouge or wizard can take care of this. Some sorcs feel this is one of the few contributions we can make and do carry it because this is such a low level spell that can be so important.
Poison Protection
Probably missed some but a good start.
All in all a really fun quest to run once every few days or week or so. In time will get some really great gear and end rewards can very cool, especially at 20.
SOLOING
no idea. Good luck with that. Not something I am good at. Ghostes (sp?) posts for stealth lessons and videos are a blast. MrCow too is a solo genius. Drastically different builds I think. So many different ways to do this. Depends if you want to specialize or dabble I guess.
