Smile Red Dwarf coming to Sarlona

Played back at release (first to reach lvl cap on my server).

This time, instead of a Human Paladin I'm going for a Dwarf Wizard. As before I want to find people to play together with using ventrilo. Unlike before my goal isn't to max lvl as fast as possible, but to have as much fun with a regular crew (duo or even a full party) as possible.

I can mix-match with any class, as far I am concerned that is best part. So if you are interested in joining me, do tell.

Doesn't Ventrilo cost, like, money? Why would anyone use Ventrilo (or Team Speak) in DDO? If the built in VC isn't good enough, isn't Skype free (more or less)?

    I just don't get it.

    Yes.

Why would anyone use Ventrilo (or Team Speak) in DDO?
    Because it's better.

Yes, Skype is free but just like how Ventrilo is better than the built in Voice Chat, it's better than Skype.

At the risk of making your reply sound less cool , better how? Better voice quality? More features you find useful? Less susceptibility to lag?
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.

Teamspeak client and servers as of RC2 are both free to use.
Ventrilo CLIENT is free to use.
Ventrilo SERVER is free to use up to a certain point, then you have to pay for administrative rights to use a full fledged one

With that said, Vent IMHO is better because each user/client thats connected to the server has MUCH more control
over voice chat OUTPUT from other users.

Basically what that means is, is if someone joins and they are too loud or coughing or sneezing in your ear, you can change their recieved
    volume output..

I wished turbine would pony up and make their redundant voice chat client like this also but alas, only a few people like me are
irritated by this so not many complain and apparently its not on their "high priority" list.

However it would be nice to see them do this, but I doubt it will ever happen.

    Oh well

    All this plus:

    1) less lag
    2) the ability to use it for multiple applications (ie other games or even to talk long distance to relatives)
    3) unless you are the vent owner that wants a 20-40 person vent--it's free
    4) you don't have to pay to use someone's vent if they choose to purchase one

How does that make it better for DDO than DDO VC? It doesn't (your other points my be valid; I have no idea as I've never use ventrilo, teamspeak or skype).

If you consistantly game with the same people, it is a great thing to have. I game with a guild over on Khyber called Free Companions, some of the Free Companion guys I have been gaming with Much longer than just DDO (some of them since Nov 1999 and have been playing online games with them since). So we use Ventrilo to stay in contact, and it goes beyond the game of DDO.

It is much more clear than ingame voice, and you can also have individual control of each person's volume. Can have private chat rooms if needed. Can send each other text messages in Ventrillo while connected. Can send web page url's in ventrilo. Its a convenience thing. Don't need to be connected to game to communicate with your friends.

It's similar to this: a car will cost you money to use (insurance, gas, tires, maintenance) while a bike is essentially "free" to use (there are maintentance costs, but they're minimal to the point of being negligible).

Both can accomplish the same task (get you from point A to point B). But one is much better at accomplishing that task, so much so that it is worth the notable increase in recurring cost.
