Not great AC potential, but the DR/5- can be helpful. I'd slot it for characters that can wear FP but (due to build choices or whatever) have no chance for a great AC. Battle cleric maybe?
Like tot said, a specialty item that someone might just covet enough to buy it off you for a reasonable sum. I believe I paid around 25k plat for mine around Mod 5 timeframe if that helps
