There is quite a spectrum of personalities on Sarlona. Many people I greatly enjoy playing with. However, I really don't understand where some people are coming from. This is a game isn't it? The purpose of a game is to have fun and enjoy yourself.
Example 1) I'm in a raid. I can't hear the guy giving me instructions because his mic is too soft to hear for me. I'm really trying to follow directions, but when I tell him I can't hear him, he treats me like I'm stupid, which is contrary to what I know of myself. I usually don't have problems hearing other peoples mics.
Example 2) I'm in a group where the leader is running pell-mell through the quest. I've never done the quest. I've been playing these games for like 7 years, in various guises. I was playing DDO just after beta. I get treated like garbage when I can't keep up. I leave party of course, but not before I get accused of being rude to them.
Example 3) I'm in a group with a bunch of people who know one another. Again, I am not familiar with the quest, and they are running through. One starts imitating a mentally handicapped person saying they're lost. This is pretty lame.
Are so many people that soulless and obsessed with success in a video game that they cannot be considerate to another? I'm not a stupid player, but apparently some people think if you haven't memorized a particular quest, then you must be a 'noob'. To me, its kind of being out of touch with reality when you are so focused on your power gaming that you treat others with rudeness and cold hearted words when they don't fit your efficient plan. Also, for me discovering the tricks to a new quest is enjoyable. People who act like this ruin that pleasure.
When I know a quest and others do not, I always try to show them the way. There is much more pleasure to be had in a game treating your fellow gamers like friends. I don't see the benefit of throwing away your compassion for your fellow human beings.
