    Default Ranger/Monk Tempest

Ok, I'm hopelessly devoted to the Ranger class. I have a pure Monk, but only to level 2. I don't get much time to play so I was thinking of scrapping him now and rerolling him (he's going to be a Two Weapon Fighting Kama user). I like the free feats from Ranger and the free wand usage.

What drawback is there to rolling up a Ranger 6/Monk 10 (Ranger 6/Monk 14 at lvl 20) that uses the Tempest enhancement?

I was thinking of taking Stunning Fist, Iron Will and Toughness as my Monk feats and the Spring Attack line/Weapon Finesse and Precise Shot/Improved Precise Shot, Improved Critical: Slashing/Ranged (by level 20) as my regular feats.

    Str 13 + 1 tome = 14
    Dex 16 + 2 Ranger dex + 1 Human Adapt = 19
    Int 12
    Wis 15 + 3 Monk Wis + 1 Gr Human Adapt = 19
    Con 14
    Cha 8

I may be off on the numbers, but I do have 32-point builds unlocked.

Well... Monks do get a LOT of abilities by staying pure. It just depends on if you think it's worth giving them up

Level 11: Diamond Body (immune to poison)
    Level 12: Abundant Step
L13: Diamond Soul (spell resistance, monk level+10
L15: Quivering Palm (Insta-death ability working off your wisdom mod)
L16: Ki Strike, adamantine (for fists, so.. meh)

You cannot use Stunning Fist while using any weapons, even monk-specific ones like Kamas. You'd have to replace it with Stunning Blow to use with your kamas, but you aren't focusing heavily on strength so... Might not be worth it.

I think it's a good-sounding build, at least as far as I know such things, being a noob The things you lose are largely fluff abilities that can be replaced or done without by you, i'd imagine.

my monk is curently planing on that split it has a lot of advantages especaly if your going for an AC build, hum cant post my word doc in here will lose to much formating and become a jumbled mess, if your interested drop me a PM with an email addy and i'll send you a copy.
Haflings rock for a TWFer with the new sneak attack enhancmetns.
    Negs:
-miss out on quiverign palm fun but soo costly nto really an issue imo.
-miss out on abundent step for now.
    Pos:
    +3 monk wis
    +2 ranger dex
    +10 attack speed
+1 net AC (+2 tempest -1 monk bonus)
2 Favored Enimies for some DPS help on key red nameds
RAms might realyl helps make up for the lower str you will have, or liek me the totaly tanked str you have

NOTE: if you build for the future a little and take 3 of your monk levles befor 6 and all 6 rnager levels before 9 you cna use yor first 2 monk bonus feats for dodge and mobility, can still get spring attack at 6 and Can get IC: at 9 you delay your twf a tad over say doign 6 ranager first btu gain a lot of feat fredome
    I recomend somethign like:
    Ranger2 monk3 ranger3-6 rest monk

currently my guy is level 8(3monk 5 reanger) was running SC on elite last night, half the group died other carred then back to shrine i went on FOL a guy and beat on him don't kill them supper fast but i;d end fights full health and i coudl take on mutiple big guys at once between AC and FoL aura healing, it only gets better from here tempest will ad dmroe ac and more attack speed for faster healing and killing...

this is an amaving break point for the 2 classes atm i think it will works very well.

Well, after some consideration, I may just use my existing Monk as my Ranger/Monk hybrid, after all, he's only level 2 and I only have to swap one feat at this point...

Although I was also thinking of taking a Rogue level for full UMD, but I'd have to reroll for that. He'd wind up as a Monk 13/Ranger 6/Rogue 1 at level 20. Would it be worth it just for the UMD?

This all happens when you're making a build rely on a class specialty (like Tempest):

If a Class Specialty: Monk comes into the game, you gotta choose between the monk one and the ranger one, cause you can't choose 2 class specialties at the same time.

EDIT: I guess you can take it all as long as it's a different classes. Just found that thru searching forums lol. My bad.

Just my 2 cents, I'm leveling my 2rog/6ranger/8barb too. A Tempest Evasion Barb who can deal with traps too.
(We didn't know about the Tempest, 2 years ago so... )

There are a ton of things between 14 and 20 that you might not want to miss out on. Take a look at this page. The DDO monks are pretty different from D&D monks (nerfed in some ways, boosted in others), but there will be similarities.

The one that I'm particularly interested in is level 20: 0 fall damage (while near a wall), no matter how far you fall, and you are no longer considered a humanoid; you're an outsider. Not to mention 2d10 fist damage (which will be nice if they throw us some unarmed bonuses, which they should do, because high level monks should be much better with their fists than with dual kamas - I'm not saying they will, but they should) and +4 AC (which is 2 better than at level 14).

Pure monks get a lot of rewards for being that way, in D&D. Granted, pure monks also pwn with their fists, in D&D, compared to any other monk weapons, but I've said my piece on that multiple times (including in my sig).
Disclaimer: I like to ignore the fact that this game is not D&D
Yay for monks dual wielding their fists! Naysayers: D&D v3.5 FAQ! (bottom of page 19)
DDO now works on linux! Link to the AppDB page for DDO on wine
