Well said. With the way combat is set up in DDO, massive amounts of combat clickies make the monk too unwieldy. This should be addressed to make the monk more fluid, and thus more attractive to play.

I ran with Ramses monk Chakra through Gianthold Tor last night, and he clearly wasn't lacking in abilities. For this reason, I find his words carry some weight in this post from another thread about finishing moves:

    I am, Rameses!
So it is clear to me that you can play an effective monk, yet keep things simple.

I can see where the monk (as implemented in DDO) might work out better in a more "traditional" MMO. The buildup of Ki reminds me very much of things like Rage or Focus in Some Other MMOs That Shall Remain Nameless. Hopefully, there's still some fine-tuning to come to make it mesh better with the DDO style. It's new yet, after all.

I disagree. I don't like playing my wizard because it's too simple. I like my barbarian a little more, but I still get a bit bored. My rogue is very fun, due to traps and the need to keep attacking things that aren't focused on me.

The reason I enjoy playing my monk (regardless of whether or not he's good) is that I have to keep all those things in mind. Whether or not my monk is good at dealing or taking damage, he is always fun to play. I have to keep my mind one step ahead of my actions in combat, I have to keep several combos in mind to get to the various finishers...

So, to summarize: the monk is just a new style of play. If you don't like having to keep all those things in your mind, well then, that's your opinion. Go play something that doesn't have specialized combos. Personally, I love the fact that the monk requires such a large mental capacity. If it didn't, I'd be getting bored, just like with everything else.

If I'm sounding rude, try to keep in mind that I have Asperger's Syndrome.
Disclaimer: I like to ignore the fact that this game is not D&D

But if that's the case, why even have all those other skills in the game? Stunning and one other occasional skill is comparable to what non-Monk classes have. If anything, I think this supports the original poster's point.

    Same here.
I notcied that i die a lot more when trying to land combos, instead of just beating stuff down.

After playing a Monk for a while now, I have to agree with the original poster. The Monk has potential, the concepts are good, some parts work well, But much isn't utilized due to the design combined with the DDO combat system.

Some improvements I see are not having Ki decrease with time. Remove move combo effects. If you have the Ki, you can use the ability. Start quests with full Ki.

So far the Monks I am playing work best under the following rule set

    KISS

    Keep
    It
    Simple
Stu.... well you get the idea.

I've got a Water Monk going (Halfling) Unarmed Striker Stunning Fist

and a Fire Monk (Human) Q Staff

The Water Monk pretty much builds up Ki and hit Stunning Fist where applicable (though on Bosses and undead I use FoL)

the Q Staff user is mostly sticks with FoL.

I do occassionally switch things up when I need to do something specific, but the KISS method seems to work pretty well

    Aesop
Rule 1: Don't sweat the small stuff
Rule 2: Its all small stuff
Rule 3: People are stupid. You, me everyone... expect it
more rules to come in a different sig

Isn't this what I've been saying.

Easily this is the best Monk type at level Cap content.

the Q Staff user is mostly sticks with FoL.

Ever since the last update. My finishing moves are not working at all.

    My monk is on khyber
    Name: Grazzhopper

Anyone know why this is happening? I seem to be the only person having this problem.

And I hate playing my monk without the healing finishing move.
