instead of mage armor potion/clickie, you can farm WW for the black widow bracers and just leave them on for a +4 armor bonus.
shield clickies are very nice to have as well.

Though I think whirlwind is excellent for ki building and grabbing aggro on a high ac monk in general (earlier levels). Intimidate is a much stronger skill end-game when you have more boss monsters and your monk DPS is far below barbo or caster damage aggro. Intimidate makes the mob instantly forget the 1000 damage caster polar ray... plus with the faster cooldown on it... you can keep a mob intimidated almost continually. (Though whirlwind looks a lot cooler).
Not that I can figure out a good way to get intimidate into a monk or monk/ranger ac build. Kind of sad to have to splash fighter or rogue to make it a class skill.
Monk 16 will get tier 4 stances at the next level cap bump.
Monk 10/Ranger 6 (the most occuring monk multiclass) will get tier 3 stances & abundant step at the next level cap bump.
Throw a fighter or rogue level in and you miss out...
I'm sort of just thinking of ignoring end game raids with my tempest monk build. Go whirlwind, crazy dex/ac, finesse, gtwf, spring attack... the fun feats...so my monk can chase mobs and whirlwind spin kicks in the air and not get damaged that often. He wont be going toe to toe with the pit fiend unless the finishing moves get a lot better... but he can always pull back with manyshot on the PitFiend and gtwf tempest speed vorpal the devils and gnolls in between rounds in part 4. With the built-in high saves and ac, he wouldn't be too bad on the hound hunting team or beholder defense team.
