    Default Kama vs Dagger

The compendium says the monk class "prefers kama, quarterstaff, shuriken, and unarmed combat to maximize the use of her special monk abilities". I also get from these forums that kamas beat daggers for monks. What I don't know is why. I have tons of twink daggers but wasn't forward looking enough to stockpile good kamas. What is the problem with daggers, etc?

    Thanks,

I would assume they didn't add a puncturing weapon (dagger) onto the monk lineup for a pretty good reason.

think of a fully buffed hasted, Air stanced monk + wounding of puncturing

    yikes imo

    To elaborate:

You loose all of the stances, special attacks and Flurry of Blows (attack bonus and additional attacks).

In a pinch you can use them (I often dual-wield my Muckbanes against slimes), but you are much better off getting handwrap, kama, shuriken or quarterstaff versions of the abilities.

Haste and Air stance do not stack.

Very clear, thanks. I use Air a lot so that is a problem. Otoh my choice of kamas is much worse than my collection of daggers. Guess I should have thought ahead.

    Thanks!!!

That's a mistake. Just use your hands, and end the slime fight with a huge overflow of Ki.

Yeah, slimes don't damage handwraps (at least they don't seem to), so bare hands tend to be a better option for monks vs. slimes than Muckbanes.

Sure, but my Muckbanes do extra damage (1-6) for bane (each), so they are doing 2-12 per blow and are undamaged by all slimes.

I also found some +1 Everbright handwraps. I'll move to wraps eventually, probably when my unarmed damage reaches 1-10.

Well, sure, but slimes aren't that tough to kill in the first place...is 1d6 extra damage really worth losing all your ki and having to reset your stance?

I think they should make daggers "centered" weapons for monks in the absence of a pierce Monk weapon (ie, the singham).

Seriously, why not give the Monk a pierce option? It's not like daggers are awesome, but would allow them to do stat dmg.

Given the shoddy implementation of FoB and the obvious 2WF push for Monks they should at least have the option to do stat dmg given their DPS is relatively low as compared to other classes.

You're doing less damage with muckbanes than with your ordinary handwraps. You also either have less AC or a strength penalty.

Everbright is pointless on handwraps, except possibly for AOE acid spells or the like.
