Default Suulomedes Arcane Strategies

Unfortunately I had to hit the sack before being able to complete this quest, but we get REALLY close with minimal preparation.

So, what are you arcanes out there using in this quest??? I'm thinking that fear might be possibly the most useful thing.....and possibly flesh to stone with a healthy amount of debuffing using a Dreamspitter.

Other ideas? Let's have a good strategy discussion without bickering about what works better, please. Thanks

Mandate of Shavarath is still not blocking charm spells. Extended suggestions might be nice.
Web
Acid and/or Solid Fog
Symbols of Stunning

And you can always fall back to watching the curses on the main tank with a wand when there's nothing else to fight.

It blocks literal "Charm" spells, but not suggestions.

I'm a moron... why didn't I think of that?!

It's usually with you that I tend to forget useful and obvious stuff... like Combat Expertise. >.<

By the way, is Symbol of Persuasion blocked by the Mandate?

Number one way an arcane can help the team: Displacement for Everybody. A lot of casters get distracted trying to attack monsters who resist most of their spells, when they could easily be making them 50% as dangerous with a simple spell.

Next up is debuffing Suulomedes. Unlike Arraetrikos he's got Mantle of Invulnerability, so spells under level 4 won't work on him, which means Ray of Enfeeblement/Exhaustion are out. But Waves of Fatigue or Exhaustion still work, and are a good help. I suppose Crushing Despair would also work, if he failed a save. Symbols of Pain/Weakness could also work, but with the long cooldown you're unlikely to make him fail.

After that, I really like to see the Bearded Devils charmed (with Mass Suggestion mostly), and kept re-charmed permanently. So far I haven't seen a caster keep them charmed too long, but I think that's a matter of misplaced priorities and poor planning/communication. The guys who pumped their Spell Penetration for Shroud raids should be able to handle this. Note that casting single-target spells on bearded devils can be difficult, because they often warp out of the way. That's why Mass Suggestion can be nicer. Symbol of Persuasion is similar (and clerics can help throw them down too).

There are many other potential ways to blunt the threat of bearded devils, who are really the most dangerous part of the raid. They're not red-named, so anything goes: fog, stone, stat damage (ie max-emp Contagion). If you do things like stat damage or stoning, you must communicate with your party to not kill them, which will just let him respawn fresh.

A caster should bring a wand of Remove Curse, which is a way you can help without spending your mana.

For the final phase, cast Fire Shield Cold to deflect suicide bats off you, and maybe give some Fire Prots to other players. Try to kill/slow with fog or symbol of death. (The suicide bats were apparently intentionally designed to make Symbol of Death useful for once)

Interesting - I have found the Red-Named Orthons to be the issue. The Devils get CC'ed, Vorp'ed, or Bang'ed no problem.

That, plus the bats. They're fairly nasty if mis-managed.

The devils arequite easy themselves, but it's rather the amount that makes them dangerous: they waste resources.

You quoted me too early, I added "They're fairly nasty if mis-managed."

Controlling the devils allows you to take care of the Orthons much easier.

And having extra help (via suggestions, symbols, etc.) helps kill things and controls at the same time. two birds, one stone?
