Plat Farmers Out in Force

The idiots were very prevalent this weekend. I lost count of the number of in-game advertisements I received this weekend. Several guildies who WERE anonymous complained about receiving plat farmer tells. Turbine, do you really want to rid the game of plat farmers and their annoying tells? Because from where I am sitting it appears as if you don't care one way or the other!

Quit playing games with that sorry reporting system and give us some tools with real teeth that will put an end to this nonsence!!!

Oh, and you don't need to farm for it...apparently it comes with the skill called "common sense"...just remember to put some point into that while you are growing up, err...I mean leveling up!

/squelch add is your friend for those who don't get banned. Other then that, a quick look over to see it's not anyone important and I continue. When I am not with a group I turn the HUD off and never hear or see those messages.

I turned off tells on my chat windows. Anyone who needs to get a hold of me can either do it in guild chat. Otherwise, it must not be taht important.

I've asked plat farmers to stop sending stuff before- sometimes they do. The best reaction I've ever gotten was when i replied two words (not that it's a big issue to me, but I wondered if it would get a reaction) "FREE TIBET". I will take a screen shot next time- but try it out yourself.

That is sweet. Better than my usual response of 'Oh no, sir, you do not have the lowest prices on the server. That honor goes to your sainted mother, as per a poll of 100 gamers.'

Actually I don't do that anymore. I just squelch them and report, it's an easy right click on the name in the tell.

And it can be harmful. Many people, myself included, seldom use voice chat. I don't because I have five kids and they are usually making a lot of noise. Was in POP a couple weeks ago and got feared, typed 'feared' since I didn't have any pots (my bad, but still) and the cleric didn't read it because he got spammed and it rolled my tell out of sight. He saw me once my firewalls were down, removed it, and asked why I didn't type anything, scrolled up, and voila.

In any case, there are many ways to deal with plat farmers, from credit card checks for new/trial accounts, limiting tells on trial accounts, actual good old fashioned catching and banning them as fast as they pop up, that kind of thing. Turbine doesn't really want to get rid of them, if they did they could, but they don't.

yeah- i had death once or twice thanks to spams on the cleric- I recommend that peopl remove tells from their party chat window and instead let them roll into their guild chat one

"Free Tibet" - Nice.... will use that one if I happen to be free when I get a tell.

Plat Farmers Win When:

- you take the time to bother with a post on a forum to talk about something that is as old as the first MMORPG
- take annoyance from the tell while in game...taking away from just having fun
- believe that no one is buying plat and feel the issues are with Turbine and not your fellow players
- you buy from them (people are buying from...hence their business model and why they are still around)
- when you respond to posts about plat farmers (opps i just scored a goal for the Plat Farmers)


all in all... who cares...

I just set up a seperate tab for tells and removed tells from all other tabs... That way I hear a "ping!", click the tell tab and if it's legit I'll answer, if spam I send a report. Then I return to the unpolluted party or guild tab I was in before.
