Default KargFu - The Tasty Ham Eataming MiniMonk

This kargon attempt to create a pure finesse halflamaling monk,
with a beholdermer AC of about 60 using gear kargon have.
Kargon intend mostly use kamas but occasionamally use fists too.
Kargon intend use water stance 99% of time.
Silly 41 point build, good thing kargon been savaming up for a while

technicamally that would be a bug with kargon brain, as kargon have alreadamy informed ron that Two weapamon fightaming and improved two weapamon fightaming currentamally do not exist in the plannermer, so kargon had to add all TWF feats manuamally. silly kargon.

and fists are blunt. Kargon knew this would come up, but kargon thinking are kama damage mostly coming from the kama itself (holy, bane, vorpamal, whatevamer) and critting for X2 base damage not going to help as much. but to keep fistfightaming viable for dps too, kargon thought that the X2 damanage much bettermer on top of the higher base damanage of fists.

That's good stuff, I'm pretty much working on the same thing without TWF...but I think I might have to change my mind. Twice the number of enchantments. More attacks. Nice greensteel kama in offhand to hold your +4 Insight to AC (unarmed would have to 'waste' it on his main weapon--assuming greensteel handwraps can be created--since the handwraps count as one weapon). Ah well, can always shuffle Feats around.

I've always thought it'd be better if things interacted with one-handed weapons and two-handed (which handwraps sort of count as) better. Like Pure Good does 1d6 on one-handed weapons, and 2d6 (or 1d8, 1d10, or whatever, something more than 1d6) on Two-Handed weapons, to make up for the fact that they can only have one weapon in their hands. Same sort of thing for the greensteel stuff. Oh well, I'm rambling. Good build there.

That not terrimable idea, would probamally replace eithermer deflect arrows if kargon not like it for flavor, or GTWF if kargon not qualimafy for it by monk 15.

By the way, are we sure the Monk BaB works like this? With the way they've messed with the Monk BaB, will you really qualify for GTWF at Level 15? Anyone tried taking a feat with a BaB requirement they normally wouldn't qualify for as a normal BaB Monk, but they did because of the modified Monk BaB?

Be careful of any BAB requirements when building the monks in the planner. They're incorrectly in the planner as a full BAB class, rather than what they should be (which is a 3/4 BAB class). I'll be fixing that for 2.95 (probably coming this weekend once I'm reasonably sure all the bugs have been reported), but in the meantime, be very sure about your BAB prereqs.

it all looks pretty good, but i'm not sure about taking monk improved recovery 3. for not having too many hit points, a good cleric should be able to keep you up just fine with improved recovery 2 and you'd get 6 enhancement points out of it, maybe for some more guile and whatnot

I think Kargon & Garth both ended up taking some type of improved recovery on their monks, and honestly I'd say it was worth it - I don't think he has very many HPs, but he's been staying in melee vs. Harry with no difficulty since the mass heals help him that much more than others. While playing my bard it was also nice to see CSW wands healing him for something like 60-70, which was plenty to tide him over between mass heals. If he is the only character taking damage and he gets tossed a Heal spell, you're correct - but in situations where everyone is taking damage or they know to use something smaller on him, it's great.

Kargon believe kargon sacrimificed some of the recovermery on the monk in favormer of extrama halflamaling guile/cunnaming enhancemaments and a few othermer things. it works very VERY well on dual wieldamers stacked with healamalling amp on their offhand greenmasteel weapamons (kargon's human barbarian and human rangermer both set up like this) and stacks very nicelamally, letting kargon close to melee without fear alongside tanks with highermer hitmapoints. also makes self healamalling between fights much quickermer. kargon realamally need to get around to repost the revised monk build when kargon get home.

Kargon, do you have an update about how it's going with the monk? Have you noticed things work out better or worse than you expected as you level? Am contemplating this build, but wondered if you had an update for us.

Kargon changed the build up a little bit on the fly, a couple of the feats and especiamally the enhancemaments.

The main differmerences so far are kargon uses fists almost exclusiveamally and only took the first TWF feat for when kargon absolutamally HAVE to vorpamal. While kargon agree that kamas are bettermer dps, kargon realamally likes stunnaming fist + weighted handmawraps (for random % stun chance, hopefumully will eventmamally help stunnaming blow too. so far kargon usaming holy of weightamed 3% handmawraps) so far (crits = ki, very fun). Kargon also alreadamy have two TWF DPS charactermermers who bust out vorpamals when needamed, so kargon wanted to change it up a bit.

Kargon instead took mobilimiaty and spring attack and plan on trying whirlmawind attack (kargon dropped deflect arrowmows... for now).

Kargon also dropped improved recovermery II and III and are maxing out the halflamaling cunnaming and guile enhancemaments. Kargon spends almost all of kargon ki on eithermer stunnaming fist or unbalamancing strike (reflex save or kargon get free sneak attacks) and the sneak attack damanage are helping make up the differmerence between monk and more dps centermered charactermermers. Also great if pure rogue in party, kargon target same enemamy and it die realamally fast. Kargon also worked it out to end up with maxxed Air AND watermer stances, depending if kargon need to tank and turtle up or run through traps kargon use watermer stance, and kargon use air stance when are no haste and when party not need kargon to run ahead and hold lots of the aggro.

Kargon AC and saves also pretty good for levamel, and kargon often outlast the party, finimish the fight (with a couple cure pots), and take stones to the shrine with no problamem. And when are not a clerimic playaming whack a mole with kargon health bar, kargon usuamally have enough ki and ac help kargno last long enough that can refill health to full with silly healamalling meditatimion.

So far kargon realamally happy with build, with the exceptimion of disintimigrate are bane of kargon existamence.

Kargon will post the exact changames eventuamally when kargon get home and have accamess to charactermermer buildermer.

Kargon not try to take it, went straight for spring attack instead. Kargon guessaming not get offermered it. Also, kargon not realamally concerned about random crits, monk dps not get multiplied too much that are importamant with 20 X2. instead kargon actuamally want enemamy to last for severamal extra hits once stunned through stunnaming blow or weightamed, so kargon gets more ki before they die. Kargon not even wearaming bloodstone yet for that reasamon (and because kargon like 5% xp and kargon too lazy to swap trinkets... just look at keensly complainaming about forget voice trinket evermary time). Instead of focus on crits (Kargon have a khopesh barbarian and a warhammermer rangermer for that) for dps kargon focusing on the sneak attack damanage and nevermer missing with the base damanage and handmawrap damanage.

    Default Hi Kargo...I mean KarFu

I took truthseeker in a very similar direction, also taking that one TWF when I have to vorpal or specialty attack and those handwraps just don't do it.

As for race, I took human so the enhancments went a more fists of harmonious balance get all the good lights when I can with the moves and healing stuff. I'm getting that remove curse JUST after my last monk wisdom (only hit L 10 not for truthseeker not 11 whenre I'm sure by then he'll be a rais-o-matic along with his other talents......it seems the two most things players fail to self suficciency take are manor stat damage lesser restore and curse removal. Now we monks can have the potential to do both. Unbalancing strike......wow...just wow. Get it folks. Even the red named will hate you

I so love my monk, often also now being the last one standing.......still a lot of misconception from all these strength monks who are one hit dead. I don't often need healing, I often heal YOU. When it's bad I generate 40 I and wholeness of body myself to full. While a wis/dex hybrid, I often start with fire stance for the rapid accumilation of Ki. When I see a slime or giant, I cry tears of joy and do NOT finish then quickly but hit them again and again as I got my ki into that nice 3 digit level. Threnal BEGINING monsters are a good start...but be ware those flensers and DO NO solo them alone monks, as the CR 14s back a punch, especially fire and ice!

Be the support player with the light healing attack then the elemental attack if needed. Make sure if you took it CE is up (and remember to reset every finishing move) You will most likely be saving the party resources with the light finishing or if OK, will limp back and wholeness of body yourself (switch to water stance for max regen rate.) And risking aggroing an evemy mob is mad as I have seen the ENTIRE mob even in a group of 6 turn on ME to defend their "little brother" Um, ouch ouch ouch.

But I rarely do die in groups, often picking up the stones and going to the shrine (soon going Pheonix for some of them ki permitting.) I tested my L 9 build before going to 10, and was even technically able to solo that Threnal arena up to Grandmaster (including the fire/ice flensers.) Exceptionlly hard, expect multiple trips to kill the 18 or 19 and be dumb, you die. But soloing a "CR 14" creature when a solo L 9 monk non str focused was a great feeling of accomplishment.....about 17 K worth of consumables even with clickies and monk healing options.

So now I know my potential limits and will adjust to the newly unwrapped L 10 and my new Monk III wisdom, and my JUST accquired str +1 tome allowing me to be a master of the fire stance too (yay.) It's now officiallty possible for me to start on my GH adventures and I shall.

As for Spring Attck, with that buig, the hitting blew chunks. Sorry, just not worth those two feats for that. Mobility and spring attack were removed ad I have improved trip (just in time for my str bump) and diehard (never again do I drop to 0 or -1 and slowly die frustratingly if doing something solo, or face that forgettable freaking out here group.)

Every biggie seeming to have cleave is annoying, when they actually hit me. SO far closing in on 40 AC and it's helping a lot. The stunning blow is really very nice with improved trip as just one of them needs to work on the big baddie and I CAN stunning fist until I replace freezing the lifeblood with it. I have about a 21 DC pre buffs for that and still find it beter to start withthe warriors blow/improved rip, THEN consider the fist.

Take note str builds, if they are on the floor, the're hot hitting back and smack em. if the're dazed, get your CRITICAL EFFECT items ready and go to town.

Bu since my new fighting song I'm just having fun with it.

Kar I heard you too have a song, and would love it if you listed it.

So hope this helps all you monk battlers. Never be afraid to try your ideas, and let us know what you did.

And in the middle of a tough quest, nothing like a grease spell to crack up that entire party

Consider using Defensive Fighting for +2 AC at -4 attack penalty. Is it worth spending a Feat and INT 11 to get 3 more AC?

I think of combat expertise as a pre-req for Improved Trip. I didn't notice you taking that. The two feats together become worthwhile for the monk class that doesn't have too many good feat choices.

My ranger/fighter might not take either feat because I do not miss having them (used to before respec), and I'd rather have Power Attack. Too many other good feat choices for ranger/fighter.

Have fun figuring out how to fit in Resistance, Protection, STR, DEX, CON, WIS, Armor, Natural, Dodge, False Life, Featherfall or Striding and Heavy Fortification items. Thats been an interesting challenge for my 9th level monk. I still have to use potions/house buffs, to get all the bonuses. I chose to wear a Heavy Fort outfit & Golden Greaves for DR 3/-

It should be nice having 14 INT though. Are you able to cross-train in open locks as a non-rogue? You might be able to maintain a useful score there because most of open locks capability comes from DEX, buffs, tools and item, more than ranks.

    Default Right, Improved Trip

Mixed results. However when tripping trolls or giants, gotta say it can work. But it is a gamble on the roll for those high end "hard to trip strengths" even when buffington.

So goes my monk experience....and the revised memory through game experience that the uber dexxed can ALSO save with that )()(*&(*&( just like tripping a Giant too!

Be careful what you wish for, what you say is best; for sometimes what you seek is found, not at the end of the quest.
