Lightbulb Ranger/Rogue Build - Feedback requested

I have recently come back to DDO and I am looking to a new ranger build. For all you experienced rangers out there, I would like some feedback/suggestions on this build.

Little Note: My favored enemies I just picked to fill out, I haven't decided on what to take. So suggestions there would be nice.

    Thanks for looking!

Are you planning on being the primary trapmonkey for your parties? If so, I've got a couple of suggestions to make....

Pretty much, always start a ranger/rogue hybrid with rogue first. You end up wasting a lot of important class skill points by doing otherwise.

A dual-class (in my opinion, ymmv) can't afford to max a stat out. Take the dex down to 18, and put those points into int or con. I generally build my ranger/rogues to hit a 16 int after whatever tomes I have available, but a lot of other people are satisfied with a 14. Others recommend an 18.

Umd is one of the best reasons for dropping a rogue level into another class. It adds an incredible amount of flexibility and survivability to a build.

True neutral is a decent alignment, but without umd, you are locking yourself away from any item with the "pure good" suffix on it. You also won't be able to use a res ring. For general weapon purposes, neutral good tends to work a little bit better.

If you plan on being the main rogue in the party in elite content then you need to have a minimum of 58 Disable Device, and ~45ish OL (not as important since you can try to open a lock as many times as necessary. Your going to have to change some stuff up or plan on getting some highend equipment and raid gear to pull this off. Personally, I'd drop my dex to 18

    +19 Ranks
    +15 DD Item
    +7 +5 tools
    +3 Int (+6 item)
    +4 GH
+2 Head of Good Fortune (Reaver Loot)
    +5 Skill Boost
    +3 Bracers from Reaver
    ---
    58

Here are the starting stats I went with on my Ranger/Rogue
    Stats
    Str 16 + 2 ram's + 3 levels + 1 tome + 6 item = 28
    Dex 18 + 3 Ranger + 2 Eleven dex + 1 level +2 tome + 6 item = 32
    Con 12 + 2 tome + 6 item= 20
    Int 12+2 tome +6 item=20
    Wis 10 + 6 item + 2 favor tome = 18
    Cha 8 = dump stat

I would increase your strength to at least 14, increase your intelligence to at least 12, increase your Con to at least 12 although 14 would be better.

    Talking Advice

I would strongly consider working the feat "Weapon Finesse" into your build somehow. With the Dex you are going to end up with, this feat will really help you hit stuff and a ranger that can melee and shoot things is pretty fashionable these days. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the input. I have thought over something's based on your comments and I have come up with a new build.

Something's to note: I can only build 28 points so I have had to adjust things because of this.

    Here is my adjusted build.

    Thoughts?

I'm gonna bet that the op has already made, capped, and rerolled a couple of times since may of 2008 when they posted this....

Nah wasn't necessary if he re-rerolled, though he plainly forgot to post here again . So to the post, and the relevance of the build he has posted, yes. It's necessary. He can always come and defend himself by posting a better build.

Default Shot on the Run plan

I had a halfling Rogue/Ranger in the beginning of this game who got Shot on the Run with a Heavy Repeating Crossbow. He ruled at the expense of too much ammo. His son carries on this approach as an Arbalester in the Mechanic Rogue line. It's far more efficient and you get a Greatbow with Keen that crits on a roll of 15 or better! This is truly the way to fight at range, and I effortlessly dominate combat from way back (which works out well since I pick up what my party ignores as they run ahead of me, leaving me to catch up halfway thru battles).

My build started with an 18 Dex and a 14 Int, and stayed a Rogue for the first 3 levels, then took a couple of Fighter levels for the feats and Attack Bonus to get Shot on the Run. As I started facing more undead, I got a screaming bow with Ghostbane, so I took a Ranger level and focused on Undead, recently leveling again as a Ranger to get Precise Shot. I'm being careful to keep the Greatbow as my main focus, but I switch out for non-corporeal opponents. Perhaps at some point I'll get a Greatbow that I can add a Ghostbane ruby to, but it'll be a while before something like that shows, and I'm only 9th level now.

The Mechanic Rogue has a lot of cool enhancements to add, like: Lacerating Shots, Thunderstone, Sharpshooter, Wracking Shot (ranged choice against constructs that allow for critical hits and sneak damage) and Skill Boost are my favorite enhancements, but there are many more reasons to choose this line over the others.

Having taken 3 classes already, I'm locked out of Prestige Classes later on, but I don't think that I'll be missing much. When giants run up to our party and I'm out front, they don't stop at my normal damage, run past me and start taking sneak attack multipliers as I shoot their backsides, and rarely make it to my fellows!
