Each elemental path stance gives you a stacking +2 to one stat and -2 to another e.g. wind gives you +2 to dex and -2 to con. At tier 3 stance (which you get at level 12), the plus goes to +3 and the neg stays at -2. The + and - are only active when you have the stance enabled. The stance does not have to be enabled to get the special attacks that you also get from taking the elemental path enhancement.

You need base stats (inc tomes) of 12 (at level 1), 14 (at level 6), 16 (at level 12) in the primary stat to take each tier. I would guess you need base stat of 18 to take tier 4 stance when that becomes available at level 18.

ooh the tier 3 + goes up? nice! I was beginning to doubt it would since tier 2 doesn't AFAIK
