His fascinate will have a 33 dc before the d20. I'm not certain he needs a perform item.

May I ask what the calculation for this is? I don't think I'd mind swapping in a ring (or something) just to fascinate stuff.

it's a charisma based skill so:

19 ranks
11 cha mod(should be the norm if you started with 18. still achievable with 16)
4 greater heroism
--
34 total

that alone will give you a dc of 34 now if u had the green steel goggles that'll push you up to 40 with no item. you could also take it a step further and use like a +6 cha item with +3 perform on it for example without having to swap something in. that means your dc for a fascinate that hardly gets used in group play will be:

44 - 53 depending on the die roll which means you'll suceed 95% of the time.

+4 GH + 2 Luck = 39 + d20. I can live with that. I'll keep a Perform item hotbarred, but not part of regular equipment it sounds like.

From the WDAs:
The fascinate feat for bards now has a will saving throw. The DC is the bard's perform skill plus a d20.

Like you said, at worse you equip a perform item.
