Severely disappointed:

I played, correction; I worked for many hours in order to obtain the 24 ing. required to imbue two supreme shards of power. I combined a Supreme Shard of Earth with a Supreme Shard of Positive. I then applied the newly imbued Supreme Shard to a Tier1 Postivie/Tier 2 Air Maul.

The only affect granted from that upgrade is Acid Blast. That's it.

So my Maul went from being a Tier 2 Weapon with Holy/Shock/S.Burst to Holy/Shock/S.Burst/A.Burst/A.Blast

But at the cost of two supreme shards instead of one.

So essentially all the extra time, trades, effort and free help my friends gave that went into creating and imbuing that second Supreme Shard were for nothing. The only affect that was applied was that of Earth while any other benefit from the Positive wasn't calculated at all.

If this is working as intended then I am very disappointed and upset.

The only way to discover new recipes with this crafting system is by exploring new combinations. Shouldn't each discovery at least award its discoverer with an equal and fair reward?

I contacted a GM in order to make sure the mechanics of this operation were working as intended. According to he/she they were. But in the end I lost a great deal of hard-work and time only to watch half my effort get swallowed into nothing.

If this happened to you wouldn't you feel jipped?

Is Turbine willing to compensate me in any way? Say by giving me a free imbued Positive Supreme Shard so as to try and make amends. Or allowing me to strip the shards from the item and use them on a different weapon in order to gain a more fair reward?

I'm not going to spend my summer farming a re-make of my weapon and its abilities. I don't have that kind of time.

It's moments like this in an MMO that make you want to just walk away from that particular game forever.

Is it that big a deal if Turbine loses a customer over this? Should I just turn the other cheek and become a Shroud drone?

I don't want to quit but it's too upsetting of an experience to just shrug off. And my new **** weapon is now a constant reminder of my folly.


Anyway, if you bothered reading this you at the very least know that doing this combo is a bad idea.

Sorry for the lost of 12 large ingredients on the plus side in future if you check the crafting thread you will find that people already did all the hard work of discovering what works and you can find out what the result will be for each combo before doing it your self.

Main thing to remember in future if you went pos/earth or earth/pos for first two tier the only way to get a special affect is to combine pos and earth shards for the third tier. You will only get one of the normal affect at third tier of the dominant shard (in this case earth always dom over pos) but you would also get a special ability which you can find listed either on these forum or a number of websites out there.

Can’t fix what done already but in future if you don’t want to take chances use one of the resources out there already.

As for why turbine did it this way while you may find this very annoying reading the orginal crafting threads it seem lots of people had a lot of fun trying to discover how the crafting system work even when things did not work out. My advice in future if that not something you find fun then use options that people already discovered.

Sorry to hear about your experience, but it's been pretty widely known for awhile that dual shard combos at Tier III require the types used in Tier I and II (for example Positive + Earth + Positive / Earth). The only known exception is Balance of Land and Sky which requires the opposing elemental types.

Personally, I waited until the recipe for what I wanted was documented already (specifically Mineral II). I'm not adventurous when it comes to using up consumables that took me months to acquire. Kudos to those who are

you had a teir 1 lighting maul, the only way to get a special t2 lightning effect is to use pos/air to upgrade it

you can't make a mineral 2 maul from anything other than a mineral 1 maul

I feel sorry for you, but there are plenty of threads and website available for you to have learnt that this was a bad idea. Whatever you'll say, it's your fault. With that said, it's for that kind of reason that Turbine should implement some way to deconstruct a weapon/accessory. At least, you would only have to grind the shards back.

well aparently there is some sort of deconstruction method available in the next mod (or is it the one after?).... soon anyways... so maybe you can remove and re-add the effects that you want...

it's a good learninge experience at any rate, next time i bet you'll make double sure it will work before trying it

But it has been very well documented what combos work and don't so while i feel bad thqat you lost stuff you worked for i don't fell that bad because the info was out there to keep it from happening.

Actually it would be nice if it simply failed, burning your power cell, similar to what happens if you put an invalid recipe in there during the creation of the manufactured ingredients.

To the OP, sorry to hear of your loss, but that was a huge time investment you made, the others are right, in the future you need to research it before the first ingredient is combined. The DDO wiki has a great instruction page and there are several good tools given in the DDO forum pages as well.

That would be minimally useful, because you're still stuck with a shard you can't use. It's full of 12 large ingredients, and it's bound to you, so unless you happen to want some other item taking that exact shard, it's still wasted.

but if it just failed it would be a no risk to find new recipies if you put a 50 in a machine and hoped to get 50 back but instead got 25 back and something worth 25 wouldn't that be better than putting in 50 and only getting back something worth 25 and not the other 25?

Sorry that happened to you, but the GM shouldn't give you anything, and you should have to eat that loss.

Firstly no, crafting was learned at the expenses of others, and if it were not for them then you would be wasting a lot more. Why don't you try being grateful first.

There are numerous resources available on these forums and other places on the internet that speciifcally state what the results of your combination would be... If you're disappointed, that's too bad, but it sounds like it is working correctly to me and you still have a very nice weapon with a huge damage capability. Also, if you consider reading the forums more and research the upcoming uses of the Horns found in The Shroud, you may come to realize that Turbine is already working on a way to help you undo your error... So as with all MMOG's out there, have patience. Turn all that energy into something productive and work on something that is FUN for you.
