How does evasion work with a shield?

If so, up to what size? (small/large/tower)

Everything except a tower shield IIRC. My rogue often used a heavy shield with no problems.

evasion works only in light armor, shields do not affect it in any way

You can use evasion with any shield as long as it doesn't put your weight into medium or heavy load. The shape and material have some influence on the lbs of weight, which along with everything else you carry is compared against your strength.

true but if you under medium encumbrance it wouldnt matte if the shiekd was equipped or not.

Basically what evasion will do is if you have to make a reflex save normally if you make the save the damageyou would have taken is cut by 50%, with evasion if you fail the save however you still take full damage.

With improved evasion you still take no damage on a save, but if you fail you only take half damage instead of full damage
