starting stat question.

for a str based rogue, that still wants to do traps. is this good

str: 16
dex: 14
con: 12
int: 16
cha: 12

I plan on using UMD for self buffs and such.

or should I go 14 str and 17 dex?

What race are you? I wouldn't go max str and commit stat suicide. Stick with 1 less than max. 14 int is suitable with tomes and high end gear.
