If you missed last week's questions, you're welcome to answer them now in addition to this week's:
    Question 1
What is something you look forward to when you log into DDO?

Hooking up with friends and having a good time in game.

    Question 2
Players often describe themselves as "powergamer" or "casual". If you feel either of these terms applies to you, describe why you believe that to be the case? If neither, what do you think of when you hear the terms "powergamer" and "casual"?

I am a Casually Incompetent Powergamer. By that I mean I play a lot, but do not have all the uber gear or skillz others do.

    Question 3
What is your least favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers), and why?

Least favorite, Hmmm. Druids. What with all the tree hugging and nature loving ****. Bunch of hippies I tell ya. I do not HATE any class, but find playing Druids hard.

OHHH and Paladins. What with the whole Lawful Goodness, and no stabbing things in the back or stealing from the rich to give to the poor (poor being myself). I hate those guys.

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?

TONS! I spend a good 1/2 of my character build time working that out.

    Question 2
A mysterious box appears before you. The writing on the side of it reads "Soap". When you stand near it, you feel the urge to climb on top of it and speak. What do you say? (Remember the forum/thread guidelines)

Friends, Eberroneans and Countrymen, Lend me . . . no . . no wait...

My Friends we have Trouble. Right here in Stormreach City. That starts with T that does not rhyme with L that stands for LAG . . .

No, ummm. gosh. Quit yer fighting and get in the game?

    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?

Well PRE 4.0 it was Tieflings. Cool bad boy quasi demonic guys with horns, tails and slightly outcast. But after seeing the art for the males, I am going to have to change that to (look to much like Drenai now, bony heads, faces, etc. blech!) . . . Shifters! Shifters are way cooler than any other races, they are almost like Owlbears in coolness.

Appearance means nothing to me. If I can play the game in my skibbies, I can run around Ebberon in my skibbies, as long as it improves my armor class.

After cleaning out the waterworks, and umpteen other sewer areas, yes, my fellow comrades, it's time to take a shower.

Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?I like the dwarfs.....nothing funnier then seeing a little man running around with weapons almost as big as he is.

    Neither.
"powergamer" = "plays the game like it's a job."
"casual" = "doesn't seem to put too much effort into enjoying the game"

Arcanists (Wizards or Sorcerer). I assume you mean the DDO version. And they are my least favorite because they're boring. Firewall and Save-or-Die spells bore me.

Enough to buy armor off the auction house to wear thigns that look cool. If more options were given to change appearance, I'd take advantage of all of them. Right now, only armor, helmets weapons and shields really adjsut the look of a character past character creation, so I use them all.

I really really really want skills to matter in this game. Listen and Spot could be better. Hide and Move Silently could be better. Bluff should work "faster." Concentration should really feel liek a requirement. Perform should affect the power of your bardsongs more than it does. All skills should be as important as Use Magic Device in that people should make builds just to take advantage of the skills they offer.

Warforged. They are cool in flavor AND playability. I like them, because I know that most high-level warforged players know to be self-sustaining and I think Power Attack is vastly underrated. I wish you'd allow for some smaller-looking warforged. Not enough variety. I also wish they'd lose their "robot" mystique.

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?

Not a whole lot as it seems the game is more built toward finding the best performance item. However I do look for the best looking items like robes, etc... when I can.

    Question 2

    I have no clue?

    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?

Half-Elf but unfortunately it does not exist in DDO. When I played PnP I almost always played a Half-Elf not for benefits just for role playing, I liked the race. Currently in DDO it is a toss up between Human and Elf but only for the appearance and potential role playing. As far as racial benefits that help more in a certain class that can be nearly over came. One of my characters is a Halfling-Paladin.

    Default Week 18

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?

I put in a lot of effort, normally. It really bothers me to have a character that would be in pristine armor (like a Paladin) walking around in some armor that looks like he wandered a battlefield looking for pieces that didn't match, or a stealthy character walking around in some neon colored armor that not only says "Look at me" but also says "Now you can't look away." And then some armors just need more depth to them. There are some suits of Full Plate that literally look like they are just skinned on to the characters. It takes a long time to find a suit of armor that looks good, or one that matches a helm, and even longer to find somethign that is actually useful to boot.

    Question 2
A mysterious box appears before you. The writing on the side of it reads "Soap". When you stand near it, you feel the urge to climb on top of it and speak. What do you say? (Remember the forum/thread guidelines)

Keeping it brief, I'd have the following things to say:
    • Grinding is not content. It keeps part of the population happy because they always have things to do, but the rest of us just never see the benefit and soon tire of running the same thing over and over.
    • Massive HP is not challenging. It's ridiculous. I hate autoattack, but I've found myself using it all through the shroud just because everything has 2000+ HP. Sitting for a minute doing nothing but autoattacking the same thing gets boring very quickly. If you're going to make a raid that involves a high-powered boss and 12 people, make it so that it takes 12 people to keep everything from going downhill. Not it takes 12 people to beat on the boss for minutes on end just because it has countless HP.
    • Your character and my character are different. I accept that. You may be an amazing killer while I am not. Oh well. I still like playing my character.
    • Boss immunities that can't be dispelled are garbage. Given the difference in caster level between players and monsters, we should be able to dispel most effects that bosses have on themselves (and putting them on before the fight is fine. They can prepare as well). Bosses can waste time casting their buffs during the fight just like we do when our spells get dispelled. Being immune to combat specialties like trip is stupid. I can accept stun immunity in some situations, but we should still be able to dispel things like that.
    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?

I really have trouble narrowing down to a particular race that I like the best. Halflings are great, except for the whole running look they have. I like the AC bonus, but it becomes mostly useless later on. The dragonmarks are also really nice for a halfling. Humans have great versatility with the bonus feats and skill points. Dwarves just have a lot of HP, plus extra SP if you go Cleric. Drow always have a special place in my heart since my first real 3rd edition character was a drow Arcane Trickster (and it kills me that the Arcane Trickster isn't in the game yet). I think really the only race that I'm not that thrilled about right now is the Elf. I just don't see much of a point playing them. I'd rather be a half-elf.

A lot. If a magic item looks unattractive, even if it is powerful, I will not use it. I spent a long time with the appearance generator making sure my character looked perfect during creation.

I was listening to Ask_the_deverlopers 3 on the DDO podcast. A question came up about turning the Irestone Inlet into a Raid. The lead developer vetoed the idea. He seems to believe raids by definition have to have some fancy end boss that would require programming effort that’s not warranted.

I take issue with this premise. I’ve seen threads on this forum that complain about the ridiculous tactics required to kill the warforged titan, storm reaver and other bosses. It feels like we are jumping through hoops rather than playing dungeons and dragons. Give us a normal monster that we can defeat using a variety of tactics available to a variety of character classes. Give us choices, don’t confine us to shooting the titan with the laser, let each party decide how best to defeat the boss.

I acknowledge that the WOW crowd wants a special end boss at the end of each raid but I’d like to believe the DDO crowd is a bit more sophisticated and would appreciate occasional variety in raid design i.e., a normal boss for a change. Would it really be that time consuming to rework Irestone Inlet into a 2nd level raid with Yaar-Yaar as a CR12 monster who could be defeated using a variety of conventional tactics.

Let your customers decide! We have been asking for a low level raid. Take a chance on Irestone Inlet and see what feedback the community provides on a raid without stupid boss tactics. Or do another survey. Just consider how many resources you could conserve if customer feedback shows we prefer a strong but ordinary CR 38 beholder to a giant that can’t be killed until a puzzle is solved.

    Elves!!!

They are the race that seems most apt to listen to NPR, support the arts, protect the environment, oppose both big government AND big business and take the long view on social policy.

If you missed last week's questions, you're welcome to answer them now in addition to this week's:

    Question 1
What is something you look forward to when you log into DDO?

That a good number of guildies or friends are on line too

    Question 2
Players often describe themselves as "powergamer" or "casual". If you feel either of these terms applies to you, describe why you believe that to be the case? If neither, what do you think of when you hear the terms "powergamer" and "casual"?

Powergamer- play more than 3 hours daily, level fast through set quest series, twinked gear, multirun quests for specific named loot, "no optionals"

Casual - dont play daily. Go slow, often take breaks for RL issues. Don't read tips, dont visit forums, play for social aspects not to get loot or xp. Dont know how to use hot bars, not really interested in learning the game

    Question 3
What is your least favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers), and why?

Dont have one yet. Tend to enjoy trying to make them work. I am not a natural cleric by game personality but I still enjoy the class
Least favorite is a pure tank (fighter or barb) until i recently discovered the pleasure of boosting their intel and taking advantage of a High UMD

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?

    Nothing

    Question 2

It's a game. be polite and considerate as much as possible.

    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?
I am very fond of bards for their "jack-of-all-trades" nature. Also like the versatility of a ranger. But all this may reflect my support of the disrespected/shunned classes

I put zero effort in because there isn't much to do with our appearance. If there were more options then I would spend a more time on it. Maybe you could have a vendor that could change the appearance of your armor/shields/weapons.

Elf, because I've played elves since I started playing DnD.

It matters to some extent. I don't necessarily try to look great, but I avoid armor/robes/helms that make me look really ugly. I love /showhelmet off!

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?

I try to make my chars look good but without any customization of armor colors and styles you can't always look your best. I don't spend tons of cash finding the right set of armor but if I do loot something better than what I am wearing at the time I will try it on but if it is ugly I'll put back on my old armor until I find an upgraded armor that looks better.

    Question 2

I believe Turbine and the Devs are doing a great job. The speed of new content is great. I would love to see more quests like The Pit and The Crucible quests that are more than just hack-slash-kill. Quests you have to think like The maze in crucible 1st time through.

I would also like to see stuff a bit more random, I know there are limits to how random stuff can be but going into the same quests while lvling up so many different chars it is to easy to learn the quests and just fly through them. It would be great to have some kind of random mob spwans and random traps to slow the quests down just a little bit and give vet players something different to look forward to with new chars and rerolls they create.

    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?

Halflings, and why I'm not really sure if I had to guess it would be because of the fact that I'm really short in real life. I also do like Gnomes and Elves but my most favorite is Halflings, they are just so small and cute like me.

Powergamer cause I play for hours on end once I log on till I ready to fall asleep. Longest game session I ever had was 12pm Sat to 7am Sunday.

    Question 3
What is your least favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers), and why?
Barbarian, Wizard, Sorcerer to much power for to little cost.

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
How much, if any, effort do you invest in your character's appearance?
I spend a lot I spend a lot of time and plat looking for nice armor and helmets with decent stats for my characters. Ugly armor and helms go to the AH or vender regardless of how good the stats are. Would like to see The Outfit System which is present in Turbine other game.

    Question 2

Save the raid for when the level cap goes up and gives us more stand alone quests.

    Question 3

Warforged they look good , and nice immunities but would like to see some Warforged loving unlike the smelly dwarfs. Elves cause they look good (the females anyway).

    1. A little at character creation with the options, I try to make each character unique and fun. Would like more customization options for character creation though. As far as items, not much. Good items that look cool is always awesome, but sometimes you gotta make do with ugly stuff

    2. - Fix balance issues with crit rage enhancements...
    - Add more to crafting, allow lower level toons to craft, maybe adjust looks of armor and items for more customization?
    - Fix the exploits

    3. Halfling by a long shot, by far my favorite race. Liked them in PnP, still like them now. Small little ball of fury bringing down giants and trolls, you know thats cool , besides the enhancements for saves are cool (don't like the throwing weapon ones though..)

I am a powergamer. I play every day, and I have multiple well equipped and well built high level characters. I loot run frequently in order to obtain the best items, and/or the plat to buy or trade for them. I have rerolled multiple characters in order to optimize my characters, and I have practiced my skills and strategies until I am able to run high level content on elite with a high level of confidence.

Paladin - I played to Level 11 and loved her, but at that point even with a buffable AC of over 60 she got pwned and was unable to dish out the damage required to make up for that. At high level, they are virtually useless except for certain special situations. I will not invite them into Shroud raids since they do not do enough DPS and end up being a mana sponge.

I spend a lot of time creating my characters. I think about the personality, and try to design a look that conveys that.

I love this game, but we are losing too many good players and we are about to lose a lot more with the launch of AoC. Long-standing bugs and issues (like held, fascinated and hypnotized monsters moving around and the unending mana of enemy casters) need to be fixed and something needs to be done to shake things up. Bring out new raids, new named items, and BRING US DRUIDS AND HALF-ORCS!!! Before it is too late!

I only have one (a Level 16 Ranger), but I have to say Halfling. It's great to have all the Saves bonuses, and they are a lot of fun to play!

Heaps. If there were more options, I would spend more time in creation or post-creation customization. I would also die armors so that the cool-shape of an armor would look cool on me because it wasn't fugly brown, etc.

    Question 2
A mysterious box appears before you. The writing on the side of it reads "Soap". When you stand near it, you feel the urge to climb on top of it and speak. What do you say? (Remember the forum/thread guidelines)

I stand atop of the soapbox and in a great bravado say, "Those who love me, follow me!" I then open a portal into the Abyss and hope a lot of Paladins are coming with me to do battle with the forces of never-ending evil and grindage.

    Question 3
Recently we asked what your favorite (and least favorite) character class was. This week we ask... what is your favorite character race, and why?

My favorite race is the tiefling because a tiefling is the natural fighter-thief. I enjoy the DARKNESS spell and his bonus to acrobatic-type manuevers. When coupled with the tiefling-paragon class for 3 levels, a tiefling's natural abilities become stronger and the ability to do things like walk on hot coals or stand in the freezing rain without taking a chill help heaps for story and practicallity against lesser elements. Tracing the lineage of the demonic blood of a tiefling also can be a great plot device or spicy enhancement to a tiefling's arsenal of natural abilities *hint hint, enhancement system + tieflings/bloodlines in general*
