    Default New Rogue

I am back on the game after an absence. Now I love the rogue alot but with all the new changes etc. Have a few questions.
I have played a rogue when game was in beta but not sure it was good enough...So will be making a new rogue from scratch so any help would be appreciated.

    1. What would be a good race to play a rogue
    2. My problem is I love to also fight so is that feasible?
I will also look at prior posts but sometimes they are outdated by updates etc...
I just want to make a good rogue that people can be proud of.....
    Thanks in advance.....

Drow are the easiest race to build rogues wtih, but most of the races make decent rogues. You need 400 favor to unlock drow but that is fairly easily done. Dwarves may be the second best choice all around.

Rogues are qutie good at combat but only in a group and only if you learn how to manage agro propperly. The best advice for combat is to take TWF and don't short change your strength score.

In some ways it is actualy kind of hard to make a truly bad rogue build, but it is pretty easy to make a decent rogue and then play it quite badly.

Sableshadow wrote a lovely Rogue guide that would help you out I think... check it out.

pretty much any race can rogue. Drow make it a little Easy but halflings are the new Rogue DPS sovereigns and Dwarves of course have more HPs than doG and humans are just pretty sweet.

If you have a concept that you'd like perused just post it and I'm sure people will tear it apart piece by piece... some in a good way other ... not so much

For a fighting rogue, the new best race is Halfling. That will only apply starting in module 7, which should be coming pretty soon. At that time, all halflings will be allowed to buy enhancements for +4 sneak attack damage. No other race gets such a good damage bonus, although the effectiveness of the halfling bonus (and sneak attacks in general) depends on your character having less aggro than the others. Fortunately, Rogue Subtle Backstabbing III allows this easily.

The other races have some possible damage bonuses too:
    Dwarf: +2 attack/damage with axes
    Drow: +2 attack/damage with rapier/shortsword
    Elf: +2 attack/damage with rapier/longsword
Warforged: -3/+3 attack/damage with Power Attack
    Human: +1 strength

Also, all the other races have +2 strength over a halfling. But still, Halfling TWF will soon be the most-damaging rogue build.

True: Drow are the easy button for making a Rogue: with the Racial Attribute bonuses and search and spot enhancements.
False: Dwarfs are 2nd best Race. Dwarfs do get some nice bonuses, but there is no "best" race for a Rogue.

Every race offers something unique and interesting to every build.

So true. My first character was (and is) a rogue (well, 2 lvls rgr for cure wand usage and twf). I had no idea what I was doing and made some very silly mistakes in his build in the early levels. But with good gear, some feat swaps, and taking the right enhancements, now I can hold my own and do just fine with traps and all the roguey stuff and can kick some major booty in a fight. Most of your fighting prowess will come with experience and advice you'll get here and in-game.

Could I re-roll my elven rogue and make him better? Yeah sure, but he's good, he's deadly, and I like him. There's lots of good builds and advice on these forums so just look around a little. Have Fun!

I have a drow Rogue that I quite like. Great with traps, good with DPS.

I went with a high dex, didn't put strength over 10 (many will disagree here but I wanted the points for intel and wisdom more than for strength). I also went with Weapon Finesse and Two Weapon Fighting, also Subtle Backstabbing to keep the aggro off which is vital because you won't last long in a toe to toe with most high end mobs.

With some good weapon sets, you can be a great asset in combat. You can paralyze/curse, or wound/puncture, or if you get an intimidator in your group you can go for straight DPS since as long as they are aggrod on someone else you will get your massive sneak attack bonus. Strength (again, many will disagree) isn't that important with this route as your damage will come mostly from the sneak attack bonus. It gets so high that for the most part I don't really care what weapon I am using, as long as it is Finessable. Daggers, Short Swords, Rapiers, whatever, they all do Sneak Attack damage. One time I punched a mob (who was ringing a trap gong and we could only kill so many of them in the quest) and he still took about 50 points of damage due to the sneak attack.

There are a lot of good Strength based DPS rogues out there, but I cut my teeth on Dex based Rogues in PnP so I sort of lean that way myself.
