I'm going to have to agree that QA/QC dropped the ball big-time, as has happened over a dozen times before.
What's that definition of insanity again? "Repeating the same action over and over and expecting a different result."

Heh, I wasn't even that upset to read this, since I'm getting pretty tired of the Shroud...
Ah well, time to start focusing on the Demon Queen (two of my characters need items from there)... What?? It's broken too???
Amazing, my luck...
Someone should go check, maybe at the same time they made the Shroud unbeatable maybe they accidentally made the Black Abbot completable again one could hope right?

confirming issue. targetted and untargetted disintegrate, greater shout, scorching ray, magic missile all do no damage to the crystal. they dont even register as having affected the crystal (i.e. resisted, etc)
btw, they did NO testing of this. if they did ANY, they would have noticed they couldnt affect the crystal.
Has anyone tried to manually target?
Point the little center circle at it, and hit disintegrate???? No target in the orb?
There are players out there who are willing to test these things. Turbine just needs to make the technical/organizational changes to give those players the opportunity to do volunteer QA... which they will, at least for big obvious things like "Raid Winnable Y/N".
The Risia server, for example, didn't get this patch before the live servers did, so there was no possibility anyone could have tested it there. Of course, even if it had been on Risia first, nobody plays there, so it probably wouldn't have gotten tested. But some people would play on Risia if there was technical support to make it reasonable- for example, a web page where you can log in and request an update of your Risia account with your live account (from a selected server). The copy would happen sometime within a week of the request, to make it easy on them.
That's how WOW does it (or did it once; I haven't looked recently). And it works. Some players like to do free QA work if you give them the chance. Hey, offer to give them a free bonus of +2 raid completion counter (on a selected character from their live acount) as a reward for finding a serious bug.
There's also the question of the mournlands server, which is another more secret test server that was announced a while ago, and assorted players were invited there. Clearly, it also failed to detect this bug. I suspect that the reason for the failure is not that those players were uninterested in testing, but either (1) they don't get timely updates, or (2) they don't have adequate cheat codes.
By cheat codes, what I mean is something like the immortal code Turbine used when demostrating Module 6 to all the game review websites. They were running The Shroud with 5 players, and everyone's hitpoints had been blasted into the -5000s. I suppose that since there are fairly few players on Mournland, it would be hard for them to organize Shroud runs, since you need 8+ people to do it the regular way. But if those testers were allowed to activate immortal mode, but not other cheats, then at least they would have noticed problems like "Oh yeah, the crystal is totally invulnerable to every spell and weapon"
have you tried attacking it from different sides of the crystal? perhaps an invisbile wall was put in place to stop people from breaking it from a certain angle.

We're looking into the Djinni's and crystals, and thank you very much for the bug reports all!
The WDA has mentioned a change relating to damaging things blocked by a barrier. Maybe some of that change was accidently added to the patch update, and there is some invisible barrier around the crystal which didn't used to block attacks, but does now.
(Earlier, Chain Lightning could hit through barriers like this. I wonder if it has been tried)
was upset about this./..took deep breath ....can't believe you post a hotfix that will need a quick fix... also it seems that other things are broken as well ...wonder if we will get a answer about this?

thanks Tolero for your response and update.
Hopefully it will be read and people will know that Turbine is addressing the issue.
