Default Rarity of Leather and Padded Armors

The level of rarity on these two types of armor is extraordinarily high. I even have end rewards by class turned on for both my capped rogues and all I ever get are chain shirts and studded leather armors. I have a 26 dexterity and would like to use what should be a relatively common type of armor.

Looking on the auction house and house K brokers yield the same results. only 2-5% of all the light armors I ever see are leather or padded. The other 90-95% is overwhelmingly chain shirts and studded leather.

Can we do something about this?

agreed very rare. I have trouble just finding plain +5 of either type. Ive pulled 1 +5 padded in, 1 +5 leather and purchased 1 +5 padded in two years. The first set of padded I gave away to someone who was having a hard time finding a set..... that was 1 year ago.

Well, they're rare, but they're not good. You can simply use chainshirts, and then upgrade to Mithral chainshirts or Mithral breastplates when possible.

The thing to do to improve leather/padded armors is to allow them to randomly drop with the Nimbleness/Greater Nimbleness enhancements, increasing the max dex bonus of the armor, so that it can actually be a viable thing to wear. Right now, aside from two rare named items, wearing leather armor is a numerical mistake.

PS. Take a look at Desecrated Leathers to see what I mean. That item is as good as a +4 Mithral Chainshirt. If +5 versions could drop, then leather might be occasionally acceptable armor.

    Default History Lesson

Some time between module 2 and module 3, I think, the loot tables were changed so that leather armors became a lot rarer. Previously they dropped more, which was a waste, because nobody wanted or used them.

The problem is if you have high DEX shirts and breastplates limit you. My rogue used to wear +5 mitheral shirt until my Dex bonus made it a better idea to buy some padded.

That is impossible. There is no padded armor better than a +5 mithral shirt in DDO, unless you mean it had some special magic ability like Fearsome (which a chainshirt could have too).

    Look:
    +5 chainshirt = 9 armor + 4 dex = 13
    +5 breastplate = 10 armor + 3 dex = 13
    +5 padded = 6 armor + 8 dex = 14
    +5 mithral chainshirt = 9 armor + 6 dex = 15
    +5 mithral breastplate = 10 armor + 5 dex = 15

The mithral choices are simply better.

    actually

    +5 chainshirt = 9 armor + 4 dex = 13
    +5 breastplate = 10 armor + 3 dex = 13
    +5 padded = 6 armor + 8 dex = 14
    +5 darkweave? padded = 6 armor + 9 dex = 15
    +5 leather = 7 armor + 6 dex = 13
    +5 darkweave leather = 7 armor + 7 dex = 14
    +5 mithral chainshirt = 9 armor + 6 dex = 15
    +5 mithral breastplate = 10 armor + 4 dex = 14

not sure the darkweave padded exists

That is wrong. A mithral bp has 5 dex, bringing it to the same 15 total protection as a mithral chainshirt.

Yes, that's a possibility. Darkweave options were added fairly recently in DDO's development, and I don't know if it comes on padded armor. By the rulebook it should only be for leather/studded, although prehaps DDO deviated from that.

Regardless: even if darkweave padded does exist in DDO, it isn't superior to a mithral chainshirt or breastplate. It still comes to the same 15 total AC.

I use padded because it has a 5% arcane spell failure. With a 40 umd i use many arcane scrolls. Yes I would like to see more padded armor.
