Default Diplomacy (How high do you need?)

I was wondering if anyone knows how high you need to go to hit maybe 80% of the time at high levels.

Assuming that you have a +skill item how high do you need to go with your total modified diplomacy score?

    20?

    30?

    Higher than that.....??

I would prefer not to max it if I can get by with less.

My Penitent Rogue has this for his Diplomacy score:

    Diplomacy 44 (18 Ranks, +6 Stat, +15 item, +1 Skill Mastery, +4 GH)

not much help here but with this I know I can hit all the Bosses in the game on a fairly low roll.

So if you went into a random Meridia quest and did not use your diplo item ~30, would it work at all? I have a Dwarf so my charisma bonus will only be around +2.

Was hoping to do something like:
    10(Ranks) +15(Item) +2(Cha) +4(GH)=31

It would, 40ish gets you pretty much anything non-named in the game. As for named, it varies. Some are harder than others. Elite Shroud are nasty, you'll need over 50 to hit them all the time.

(I'm assuming Diplo DC is the same Intimidate)

Yeah I've seen a lot of threads with you and Riott talking about intimidate DC. I though I read once that the diplo check was easier, but I could be remembering incorrectly.

    Default over 40

for elite content, it should be over 40, you will almost never fail

i have not experimented much with below 40 at current end-game so i do not know if less than 40 is effective

i can get mine up to i think 44 on my bard & can only remember failing a few times

Shar has a 41 Diplo w/GH, and I've failed vs. the Pit Fiend elite....but that's the only failure I remember.

Next time I'm on an elite run, I'm going to use my rogue boost for a 46 and see how that works out.

You need 53 to never fail on normal.

With 50, I've missed the named Earth Elemental and the Orthon on elite too.

You got a Diplo toon Borro0? Or are you basing the score off your intim on Borro0?

Diplomacy, unlike Intimidation, does not factor in a monster's size modifier. This means you don't have to have as high of a diplomacy to match that of an intimi-tank when you are up against giants and pit fiends and whatnot but you would need a higher diplomacy against small things like kobolds.

As far as Borror0 using my HD = Diplomacy/Intimidation Break Point - (10 + WIS Modifier) formula... I should explain that I use the modified role for my math. I know I've gotten into a bit of trouble using it this way, but it just makes the math for this HD calculation easier on me (as then I can ignore the size modifier as part of the equation.).

Intimidate score, so remove the size modifier.

I don't think anyones done the work to actually pin down the numbers like they have with intimidate, I would assume that it is the same if not similar in DC. I just try and keep it as high as possible.

My rogue has 19 ranks of diplomacy, a +10 from existential stalemate and +6 cha modifier. I can only successfully diplo Aratraekos on 15+
