Default 12 Starting WIS Too High?

    Going for pure Ranger, finesse/ranged

    32 pt. Elf

    STR 15
    DEX 18
    CON 14
    INT 8
    WIS 12
    CHA 8

    - It's a little too late now (tomes eaten), but should I have put less points into WIS and allocated them somewhere else?

Personally, when i build a ranger that i want to be able to cast max level spells, I build 11 base wis, with a plus 1 tome (fairly easy to come by if it isn't your first time to the plate). That will give you a 12 base. Then i use the helm from the adamantine ore (can't remember the name) but it is plus 2 wis, plus 5 will save, and protection from evil clicky (correct me if i have my wires crossed). That will take care of getting the casting to max level until such time as an appropriate tome drops from the loot gods.

Looks fine to me. I've been wavering between 9-11 on my ranger builds, depending on what I wanted them to do... 12 isn't a deal breaker. My drow ranger started with a 14, and he still holds his own fairly well.

Will be fine, you will like having the few more SP during the leveling up period I am sure. Also frees you up from NEEDING to equip a WIS item if you do not want to, but with any sort of one, you could now hit 18.

Most rangers seriously augment their spell points with some sort of Power/Magi item to cast those buffs at the start on themselves and others, and then go to normal gear. My Ranger has like 236 SP (336 with Magi weapon). Drops 100 points of barks, or resists or jumps, etc right at the start, then is good to go. I believe his non item WIS is now 13 since I have a +5 WIS ring IIRC. (Since I am also a Rogue, the WIS helps there too...)

with existential stalemate being so easily obtained, there's no reason to have more than 9 wis on a ranger build, unless you really want that extra point or two of will save

you're much better off boosting con or str, and definitely getting dex to 19 off the start (for an elf/drow)

9 wis + 1 tome +6 existential stalemate = 16, enough to cast any ranger spell available at current level cap

personally my ranger uses neg/pos goggles:

    +6 wisdom
    +10 diplo
    +10 haggle
    Disease Immunity
    Blindness Immunity
    +50sp
    +2 cha skills

    level 3 upgrade will be:
    +100sp
    +3 cha skills
    concordant opposition

will put my umd at almost a 30 on an elf 15 ranger 1 barb with 8 starting cha

    vicalas starting stats:
    15 str
    19 dex
    13 con
    8 int
11 wis (should have been 9, with an extra point in con, oh well)
    8 cha

current stats @ lvl 16 with items:
    22 str (rages to 34)
    36 dex
    21 con (rages to 35)
    8 int
    18 wis
11/15 cha (item swaps out for umd based stuff only)

    unbuffed/unraged hp/sp:
247hp/448sp (swap out wiz item for: 265hp/323sp) with no false life item (need a fearsome robe of greater false life)...rages to 377hp currently

    unbuffed/unraged saves:
    21/27/14 (26/27/16 raged)

ac of 39 (+6 vs favored enemies) unbuffed in a dress

Perhaps easy for you to obtain, but somehow I don't see a lot of rangers using that during most of their careers while getting to those levels.

I started Milo (28 point build) with

    14 str
    16 dex
    12 con
    10 int
    14 wis
    10 cha

before I knew all about tomes and such back when I first started game and his stats are now

22 str (+2 tome and +6 str item)
    34 dex ( +5 enhancements, +3 tome, +6 dex item, +4 lvl stat points)
20 con (+2 tome and +6 con item)
    10 int
    22 wis (+3 tome and + 5 wis item)
    10 cha

He currently has 322 hps and 589 mana. I LOVE haveing that much mana for being self sufficient and if I where to recreate him as a 32 point build I would go

    16 str
    16 dex
    14 con
    8 int
    14 wis
    8 cha

    for dex based ranger.

Default I tend to roll well rounded rather than min/max

All of my Rangers started their careers with a 12 Wisdom excpet for my newest Ranger who is mixing in some Cleric. He started with a 14 Wisdom. I find it easier to not have to worry about finding that +4 to +6 Wisdom item when +2 will do the trick. I'm not sayig I won't equip a higher +x Wisdom item, just not that I desparately need one to function.

12 is fine and your stats look great.

What I do is equip my exostential stalemate item (+6 wisdom, Wizardry VI, +150 SP, + 6 Cha skills) , buff the entire group with Bark and certain procs. Cast Owls on myself (keeps me at 18) and swap in an HP item.

How Dex builds can end up?

    30 Str (36 situationally)
    38 Dex
    26 Con (32 situationally)
    20 Wisdom

Oh, thats with 475 HP and 60 AC.

    So no worries =p
