    Default Another noob ranger question.

Besides the damage, whats the difference between a longbow and shortbow and what does composite do?

I haven't noticed any differences except proficiency of course. There seems to be no range increments per say in DDO. I can target a creature, back up out of sight, open fire and get the same attack bonus as if I were 40' away.

Very few if any that come into play.

Now some characters might be proficient with shortbows but not longbows due to race/class.

In addition, I believe that someone once did a study about the arch of the shots and the general trajectory. Against some mobs in some locations, one type of bow succeeded in hitting the target, while the other consistently hit the wall in front. This was a long time ago, but even if true, without careful study and placement of both yourself and the target mob, this is for all practical purposes a non-issue.

Composite increases the range. I think maybe longbows has a longer range than shortbows, too.

I personally do not worry about the type of bow, the properties matter more. IF you have a choice between two same speced bows, take the longbow over shortbow, but otherwise take the better magic boosts.

totally in agreement here. I have never gotten an "out of range" message on a mob that I could target.
