    Lightbulb Crossbow Love!

    Okay, other than just making crossbows ridiculously cool, I was trying to think of just a few things that would make them better than they currently are without going too crazy.

    After thinking of a lot of different things, how about just a single little change/adaptation to allow STR bonuses on the crossbows?

    This could go one of two ways; either crafting rituals that strengthen a crossbow's limbs and structure to allow for even more power, or crafting rituals that would further enhance the amount of STR already allowed to a crossbow.

    I think I favor the second, and it could go like this....

    1. Any magical crossbow (+1 or better) allows up to +4 in STR bonus to damage.
    (This is a change to how they work now and a departure from PnP, but hey, I'm wishing here.)
    2. Ritual I - imbues the crossbow with greater resiliency and allows +4 more STR bonus (+8 total)
    3. Ritual II - +4 STR (+12 total)
    4. Ritual III, IV, V? How far does it go?

    Alternatively, the first ritual could allow the base +4 bonus and we'd go from there, but that's kind of yucky.

    Anyway, I have no idea what some appropriate materials for the Ritual would be, and whether or not this works on repeaters....

    You could add Str damge to crossbows as they are and they would still not be effective int his game. The Rate of Fire is way too slow.

    THey are at best a Situational Weapon for a non melee class.

    All ranged weps need their rate of fire increased......say to what you get now with the rapid fire feat. Then have rapid fire give you ranged attacks at melee speed.

    With crossbows, I would almost accept not being stuck in a reload animation.....then my casters could actually find one to be useful.

    Once quivers come into effect, I will be using crossbows to fill in the gaps with my returning weapons for soloing. I shudder to think how many bolts I would have used so far.

    Anyways as far as I'm concerned, quivers were some nice ranged weapon love, as long as the UI for them is good enough.

    How about instead following the D&D rules and allowing dex bonus to crossbow damage, as explained by the feats in this thread.

    Umm almost all those feats are complete munchkin and for sure optional and no gm worth his salt I know uses them.

    To the op xbows should never get a str bonus they dont work that way thats why we have lt/hvy/grt xbows maybe use crafting to make xbows that load faster and or shoot faster.
