    Default Got a new song

I just hit lvl 12 on my Bard, and was granted the song that acts the same as break enchantment. However, it says I need a perform of 15 to use. MY perform is rank 14. I put on my +10 perform item, but it still doesn't work. Do I have to wait until level 13 to put another point in perform to use this new song? I have only tried to use the song in public so far, but even with the perform item equipped, it says it is too low.

The required perform is 15 ranks, and you only have 14, so you don't meet the requirements. It looks at your base ranks, not your total modifier.

    4 ranks at level 1
    11 ranks levels 2-12
    ---
15 total. Looks like you missed one along the way.

But you can make it up by getting two ranks of perform at level 13. You will want to do this. Facinate is getting a DC check based off the perform skill in the upcoming mod.

Yeah, you pretty much need to have every possible rank of Perform if you plan on using your songs. The level you "get" the skill is actually set by the required ranks, in effect. You need to be lvl 12 because that's the soonest you can have 15 ranks.

The perform items currently do not do anything whatsoever. In the next update, they will be used in conjunction with the fascinate song (to set the DC). You never need (or benefit from) a perform item other than that one, not yet implemented, use.

While levelling, I skimp on perform for two levels to keep my other skills high, then dump 3 points into Perform at 3's multiple levels (3, 6, 9, etc) so I don't miss out on the new songs.

So when I hit lvl 13, if my rank is currently 14, how many points do I have to put into perform in order to use the song?

You need a base rank of 15 so one point in perform will do it, however with the new changes in mod 7 you would be wise to keep it maxed. Also without max ranks you won't gain access to inspire heroics at lvl 15. Keep in mind, however, that the way the DC for Song of Freedom works, it will rarely succeed.

Well, its less effective than if you cast the spell Break Enchantment. However, I've used it occassionally when spell points are tight and not noticed it to be useless.

Why is it less effective than if you cast the spell Break Enchantment? It works exactly the same way. The only real drawback is the casting time when you sing.

Because the spell Break Enchantment is more potent and more usefull than song of freedom.
Song of Freedom is a single target dispelling any harmfull spell effects.
Break Enchantment is an AOE harmful dispel effect, as you can dispels harmful de-buffs on both friend and foe, and turn off enemy AOE spell effects such as blade barrier, firewall, cloud kill and such.

When you get the lvl 12 song, it is still useful, sometimes you would rather play a song than cast a wider spell...I tend to use the song to de-charm single monsters in a charm mob so they all turn and strike particular ones, good if you accidentally charm an orange named.
