Hello fellow gamers,
This post is an explanation of how I went about resolving Keyboard/Mouse lag that I experienced relating to recently released Avast v4.8.
First off, the problem first appeared on my wifes computer, as I have been trying to get her to try out DDO to see if she will like it as much as our old days of PnP.
After driving me mad for a couple of days I found the following forum post:

It is in relation to WoW, but fear not, for it effects most games it seems, including for my wife DDO. (Many posted on forum from other games).
Basically, the latest release of avast 4.8 seemed to include some new functionality resulting in periodic (every 30 seconds or less) keyboard and mouse lag/freezing/whatever, that would render the character unresponsive to keyboard or mouse usage for a few seconds (ie: keep running forward as per last key...). It would apparently queue keyboard presses in the buffer though and your character would carry out the sequence of key presses.
The solution to the problem was either uninstall Avast completely, or install the following beta fix Avast put out, as directed at the following post:

The fix supplied as beta seemed to do the trick for my wifes computer. I tested it for about 10 minutes without noticing the problem at all.
(Before the problem was very swiftly noticed, rendering the game frustratingly uncontrollable).
I haven't tested for any great length of time yet, and have yet to see if my game is effected too (have spent all my time fixing my wifes problems) so I can't verify if the solution above completely resolves the problem.
I just wanted to post as soon as possible, to hopefully help anyone else troubled by this problem using Avast 4.8.
Also, if anyone saw my wifes character Sieria Woodmist (Cleric lvl1) running around the tutorial level repeatedly doing figure 8's for minutes on end around the crates outside the training arenas, it was not a sign of mental deficiency, nor her inability to master basic movement.. it was in fact myself testing methodically! lol.
Game on peoples...!
