Default Diplomacy on Quest NPC's ?

Hi guys, my sorceror has quite a high diplomacy & someone recently mentioned to me ingame that I can use my diplomacy skill on Quest reward NPC's to get more options of reward to choose from, so I have 2 questions.

    1) Is this true that diplomacy has an effect on Quest reward NPC's ?

    2) How do I know when a diplomacy check on NPC's has worked ? its easy to know when its worked on a monster but all I get when I use it on an NPC is some different sound fx.

    Thanks.

Sorry mate, was it around 2 weeks ago that he told you this? Say around the 1st of the month?

It used to be that if you danced around a chest three times counterclockwise, then cast grease, it would drop better loot. j/k Alot of folks used to think it worked, but it doesn't do anything to diplo an NPC for an end reward.

No it was this week, I googled it & found some info on it but its all rumours.

So in the skill description of diplomacy it says you can use it on NPC's so in what capacity is this true ? ive tried it on vendors & it doesnt make any difference in buy/sell prices.

I dont really mind if it doesnt I have the skill to manage agro were possible.

Diplomacy helps lessen aggressive posture (agro) of mobs. Bluff does the same thing and they were on the same timer (I haven't used my diplomacy in over a year with Thet, so I'm not sure if it's still true, but probably is because else I'd get more backstabbing whirlwinds with the multi-cool downs).

Diplomacy also can be used to influence NPCs in certain decisions so that you don't have to do an alternative action such as fight the npc or pay them even more money than what a high-bluff or diplomacy person (or haggle) may be able to achieve. This only works in quests unfortunately. Haggle is your skill with the vendors, so if you're looking for rewards, that's the best way to accumulate wealth with that skill (buy low, sell high).

Thanks for clearing that up, I will pass the info on.

Influencing NPC's comes only within a dialogue window, you will see the word diplomacy actually appear in parenthesis in front of the dialogue choice. This mean that it will make a diplomacy check and failure or succes will determine the next NPC action.

Examples off the top of my head are

Von1 getting the key to the arena from the Kobold
Von 2 getting the item from the fire giant
POP getting the key from the Rakasha

    there are tons of others

    Question Question then

If there are certain things you can do to influence NPC's (i.e the Von's). Is there a chance if you get your Heal skill high enough you can then heal Mistress Orphne in Von2 as I have seen when talking to here that there is an option that has Heal in brackets? Has anyone tried this or does anyone have a high enough skill to skip this quest entirely?

Not that this is a real hard quest, I actually find it quite entertaing for a 5 min we are usually in it, but if there was a way to skip it entirely I might just shoot for it to try and shorten the Von flagging.

    Anyone tried this?

Actually, Diplomacy on a reward giver worked quite well before Mod 2, better end rewards were common if you had a high diplo. after mod 2 you could no longer diplo an NPC, It's a moot point now. Old timers should remember the dev quote about "diplomacy has no effect on chests" and not a word about NPC's hehhehe

I remember the old days of dancing around chests, using diplomacy, buffing charisma on the person opening the chest. This then evolved into the crazy superstitions that if you could get better loot by dancing at the chest, tumble back 3 times, point to the chest, run up and use diplomacy before opening. (along with other insane combinations of various actions.)

However, I still believe that charisma may have an effect on the random loot you recieve. I can not confirm this, but my high charisma characters tend to pull better loot. Although this may just be coincidence.

Ex. My sorceror and bard both pulled +1 items out of nearly all chests in the the sully's and goodblade quests and had multiple +1 choices in the goodblades end rewards. My other characters with lower charisma did not see +1 until at least the water works.
