    Default A pure Paladin build

    I was messing around with DDO character planner and I was trying to make a cool Pure Paladin build. Problem is I haven't played in awhile and I never hit above 10 so I need a lot of critiquing on it. He's suppose to have high armor class and good saves. I don't know what to expect for gear at higher levels though or what's good at level 16 now.

    Any suggestions would be nice

    My basic suggetions...

    Less dex, more strength. Starting 10 or even 8 dex is fine, I'd go for 10.
    Put your abbility raises at levels into strength as well.
    Take improved crit at 9 instead of 15.
    Take balance over concntration (paladins don't cast much during fights)

    Since you are focusing on AC. I would say take intimidate instead of Diplomacy. You want mobs to be attacking you as opposed to the nuking casters and TWF guys. Take intimidate and use it, you will be loved by many!

    I fixed the skills like suggested and added more strength to see what it would look like and minused the dex for strength.

    Posting the newer one for comparison.

    A couple of opinions.

    • Drop Empowered Healing, because for the most part you will be using cure wands for healing.
    • Max UMD out. High charisma, a Golden Cartouche and Greater Heroism will give you 25ish UMD, which is enough for most race restricted weapons and items.
    • As a pure human paladin, you can't get a high enough AC to make a huge difference in elite end-content. If you insist on staying pure, try dwarf instead. They get the Armor Mastery -enhancement line which increases your max dexterity bonus on armor. However, you will be spread very thin ability-wise. You need a 22 dex to fill up a mithral full plate with the dwarf Armor Mastery -enhancements. And the -2 to cha will hurt. I wouldn't recommend this unless you have access to 32pt builds and a good set of +stat items.
    • Swap Force of Personality for something else (Power Attack, Weapon Focus ...). Your saves will be stellar anyway, you won't need the 4-5 extra points on your will save.

    Well my pure paladin has hit the reaver up 51 times and netted a whole +3 int tome so far. So putting a full line of +3 tomes may not be a good idea.

    As for the build stats i went with

    12

    with various +1 and 2 tomes and +6 stat items im currently at

    28
    18
    24
    11
    20
    22

    Which so far works out well!

    Oh but the Shroud gives them too. So I get one from the Reaver over 70 runs, and every 20th I get a random one
    from The Shroud, so lets say Im real lucky and I get exactly what I need every 20th.

    100 runs in the Shroud and 70 Reavers and you too can have a somewhat viable Paladin...sweet!

    Sorry man, I dont like when people fill every available slot with raid loot, let alone every stat with a +3 tome.

    Especially considering that with a more intelligent use of gear, a lv 12 pally could do better...in DPS, healing, AC, saves...

    Force of personality: For heaves sake WHY? Yer wills already rediculious.
    Reflex is a bit more important, dont you think?

    Let alone the stats. Only +3 tome a good pally 'needs' is str, as human pally to hit 32 str.

    Raid gear?
    I've never passed level 10 and I'm not fluent in the ways of DDO. I'll just go back to drawing board on my build.

    I believe I didn't use and crazy gear.

    At the moment my saves don't seem very high.
    With all the items I get about 26/17/20.
    Anyone know if that's low?

    Saves breakdown:

    Fortitude: 10 (base) + 4 (18 con) + 2 (Paladin Resistance of Good I) + 4 (Resistance item) + 4 (Greater Heroism) + 8 (Paladin Grace of Good) = 32
    Reflex: 5 (base) + 3 (16 dex) + 2 (Paladin Resistance of Good I) + 4 (Resistance item) + 4 (Greater Heroism) + 8 (Paladin Grace of Good) = 26
    Will: 5 (base) + 4 (18 wis) + 2 (Paladin Resistance of Good I) + 4 (Resistance item) + 4 (Greater Heroism) + 8 (Paladin Grace of Good) = 27

    So you're looking at a reasonable minimum of 32/26/27. My Caius (pal15) runs around with about 37/30/31 (22 con, Kardin's Eye, Prayer, Resistance of Good II, Ethereal Bracers).

    AC breakdown:

    10 base
    14 armor (Dragon plate. In my opinion Black is a lot smarter choice for a paladin, Wizardry V and all.)
    01 dex (If you can get your hands on a Daggertooth's Belt, you can add 2 to your max dex. It's a random drop in the Crucible.)
    05 deflection (protection item)
    02 dodge (Chaosgarde)
    03 aura (Bulwark of Good II)
    05 Combat Expertise (I don't recommend this as you can't cast spells when it's on.)
    09 shield (Farm the Reaver for a Madstone Shield so that you don't have to spend a feat on tower shield proficiency.)
    01 Haste
    03 natural armor (Barkskin potion)
    =

    Add 2 with a Daggertooth's Belt, 2 with a friendly ranger (Barkskin), 2 with a friendly cleric (Recitation), 1 with a weapon of Parrying, 2 with Defensive Fighting on and 2 when blocking. If you get lucky and score a Chattering Ring out of the Titan raid, that's another +3. And in Mod7 you will have access to Bulwark of Good IV, which is another +2.
    So we're looking at a maximum of 69 AC. Not too shabby.

    I am actually going to disagree about the pure fantasy +3 tome thinking comments. +3 tomes are going to become actually realistic with the next mod. You will get the opportunity to get a +3 tome in the following raids: shroud(very likely so far the posts I have seen and my own personal experience suggests 1-3 +3 tomes per 20th run), the abbot (this raid will be fixed and hence playable according to the devs next mod, but should have a poor drop rate like the reaver), the reaver (poor drop rate I actually dont think this is worth the time and the effort to run it), the new raid (odds are the new raid will have a similiar drop rate to the shroud on the 20th), mod 8 (which in theory is 4 months away or so will probably have +4 tomes), favor award (the game is due for a new favor award which could possible be a +3 or higher tome and I wouldn't be surprised if this was +4 - ddo needs a new favor incentive as there is little currently). Finally, when the cap reaches 20th level we should be able to loot +3 tomes in chests in non raids.
