Arrow Tell The DDO Community Team #15

Hello Stormreach! It's time once again...

    How it works:
I'll be asking you questions, and here in my thread, you tell me: What comes to mind; what you think; how you feel; etc, as it relates to the question(s) at hand. If you missed the previous week's questions, they'll be listed below and you can answer them here too. Thank you so much to everyone for offering their answers!

    Ground Rules:
Before we get started, let's lay down three ground rules if you're going to participate in the thread. These ground rules also have a few samples to help clarify participation:

#1 - The single most important rule to remember while participating in this thread is:
    No personal attacks.
If you disagree with the opinion of another participant, that's fine, but no one can make anyone agree to their opinion. Thus, please refrain from commenting on the personal qualities of others who offer their responses to the question(s). Personal attacks go against forum guidelines. Questions asked will be subjective, and some users will have a lot related to their opinion, while others may only define things in short phrases. All forms are acceptable.
    Hypothetical Example:
Tolero "Do you like ice cream?"
Player 1 "I hate ice cream because it's too tough to scoop"
Acceptable "I like it. It's not that bad to scoop once you let it sit on the counter for a little bit before you try to dip it Player 1."
Acceptable "I like it but I have the same problem as Player 1. What brand is it Player 1?"
Acceptable "I don't think it's too hard, I never have any problem with it. I like ice cream."
    Unacceptable "That's cause you're a noob..."
Unacceptable "You don't have enough experience with scooping to be talking about how difficult it is"
Unacceptable "How about you back that opinion up with some numbers. If you can't prove it don't bring it here"

Everyone has the right to offer their response to the question(s), whether they have scientific data to back up their feelings, or they simply just "feel" a certain way towards the question(s).

#2 - Participate as well as discuss.
If you would like to join in the discussion, please be sure to offer your response to the questions as well, in addition to your conversation with any other thread participants
    Hypothetical Example:
    Tolero "What's your favorite color?"
    Player 1 "Blue"
    Player 2 "Green"
Acceptable "Purple... hey Player 2, how come you like Green?"
Unacceptable "hey Player 2 how come you like Green?"

Please be sure to take the time to offer your own opinion of the question(s) before you engage in a discussion about other people's opinions in the thread.

#3 - Don't recycle the above hypothetical examples in your responses as it spams the thread.
    -------------------------- Let's Get Started! --------------------------

If you missed last week's questions, you're welcome to answer them now in addition to this week's:

    Question 1
What is your least favorite DDO creature, and why?

    Question 2
What are two things that would make you sad if they were ever changed?

    Question 3
Do you enjoy reading the storyline of the quests? If so, what is your favorite quest story?

    This week's question(s) are:

    Question 1
Other than custom made equip-able treasure items (weapons, armor/robes, shields, accessories) what other things would you like to produce through crafting?

    Question 2
What is one in-game "myth" that you find you frequently have to dispell? (example: Some players believe that their haggle skill affects the quality of the treasure they will receive in chests. This is incorrect)

    Question 3
What is your favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers) and why?

    Question 4
Pick one word...any word... but only one.

    This week's answers are:
    Answer 1
    Potions, Scrolls, and Wands

    Answer 2
That casting the fire protection spell causes Velah to go thermo-nuclear.

    Answer 3
I enjoy the melee combat classes, especially fighters. With the active combat system in DDO it is a blast to just go toe-to-toe with monsters.

    Answer 4
    Randomize!
"The sword itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with swords."

    1. Aside from weapons and items? Cheaper wands would be nice. Staffs with charges of higher level spells would be nice as well. Those are the things I would want without forcing you guys to make new game mechanics.

    2. I have to explain DR a lot, but I don't know of many myths.

    3. I love playing my wizard. My favorite combo is my 8 Bard/3 Rogue, but I don't know if it'll play out well as a bard or as a rogue at higher level.

1: I would like to see us be able to make potions and scrolls to sell to people or use in game.

2: I often have to dispell people's misconceptions about the role of characters classes in the quest. They often do not realize that people play to their playstyle, and often demand things that they feel you should have.

3: Sorcerer. I love to play castors in the D&D games. Although in pen and paper I usually play a rogue sorc combo. DDO falls short of being able to do this well, so I don't do it in DDO.

    4: Content.

Rogues are trap monkeys, and cannot do anything else.

    Rogues, because of the versatility.

    Question 4

Question 1 - Other than custom made equipable treasure items (weapons, armor/robes, shields, accessories) what other things would you like to produce through crafting?

I'd love to have the ability to merge the bonuses of tomes up to the P&P maximum (+5). ex. Take 2 +1 tomes and some syberis shards hit "Mix magically" and out comes a bound +2 tome. It would be a great way to get these things out of the AH for ******** prices as power gamers will be farming these thing relentlessly.

Question 2 - What is one in-game "myth" that you find you frequently have to dispell? (example: Some players believe that their haggle skill affects the quality of the treasure they will receive in chests. This is incorrect)

Wow, this is definately a tossup between the following:
    - Warforged as wizards? A race/class combo that makes incredible sense to me is met with a lot of questions when in groups.
    - I need a cleric to fix <insert debilitative spell>! I really don't know how these people made it out of the harbor and into the marketplace.
    - It's not worth grinding out the necropolis (non-Orchard) quests. I always hear this after one of my rangers has cleared out the beholders in VoN3.
    - <Insert class type> sucks! The phrase that has launced a thousand flamewars ladies and gentlemen...

Question 3 - What is your favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers) and why?
Multiclass rangers. I honestly believe they get more from splashing other classes than other classes get from splashing ranger. Start off with a level of rogue and you have a character that's as close to the scout class as you'll get in DDO. Take 2 levels of fighter and follow a fine P&P tradition. Dip a level of wizard and add an AD&D feel to the character.

Question 4 - Pick one word...any word... but only one.
Doubleweapon. OK, so it's not a compound word but the idea is to get a concept across...
Things worthy of Standing Stone going EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on.:
    • Epic and Legendary Mysterious ring upgrades, please.
    • Change the stack size of filigree in the shared bank to 50. The 5 stack makes the shared bank worthless for storing filigree in a human usable manner.
    • Fixing why I don't connect to the chat server for 5 minutes when I log into a game world.
    • Fixing the wonky Lightning Sphere and Tactical Det firing by converting them to use alchemist spell arcing.
    • Redoing the drop rates of tomes in generic and raid loot tables.

    1. Do what you should have done to start with- consumable magic items. Once that's in you can eliminate the scroll/potion/wand npcs in the game. The current raid crafting is messy and yields way too powerful items for our levels.

Non-magic crafting? Being able to take a craft/profession skill that allows you to modify the appearance of current items- like a tailor for making new designs on robes.

    2. In game? "We need a cleric to do this quest (insert drawn out wait for a cleric here)"
Out of game? Variations of "how I like to play has no effect on how you play", "twinking is a-ok!", and "just form a guild that plays according to 3.5 rules and everything will be fine".

    3. Rangers. Flexibility is fun. Now if only ranged worked right...!

    4. I take the fifth!

    Question 1
What is your least favorite DDO creature, and why?

Rats! The Rats in the Vale and The ones in the Orchard. Why? They seem to have an "auto-hit" ability. Very annoying.

What are two things that would make you sad if they were ever changed?

Feat Respec and if You ever get rid of being able to take multiple toughness feats.

    Question 3
Do you enjoy reading the storyline of the quests? If so, what is your favorite quest story?

Yes. My favorite is the storyline to The Black Abbot.

I would say class specific stuff should be craftable by that class. But I see no reason for crafting as the game is mostly combat oriented and the loot tables have been good.

That going for ransack, conquest, and debilitation is for fun and does not increase your xp. At the same time, skipping all that will get you a ton of xp quicker and you still have fun. Leading to less repetition of same dungeon and more play time and less break box or look for last monster time.

Sorc- rules right now make em powerful and fun.

    1) Ammunition. Golem pets?

Maybe wands, scrolls, potions and staffs. If you guys can figure out the balance issues that are pretty inherent in the ability to craft powerful consumable magic items.

    2) I have to explain stuff a lot (stacking, enhancements, who can use what), but I don't know that they really count as myths.

    3) Undoubtedly, Cleric.

    4) More.

Custom looking clothing. I would love to change the color and look of my Robes and armor. I find this great robe - Fearsome of Heavy Fortification and it's purple with feathers... oh please... Come on now. Who makes these. How about all black with some cool stitching in silver?

More players on a team, the better the chances of doing well on the raid. Honestly, I find the sociological principles come to light when we have a full party of 12 vs a party of 4. When there are 3 Clerics, 3 Mages, etc... I find more deaths and stupid play because everyone figures someone else is doing the job, so they can just be turnips.

    Question 3
What is your favorite class (or class combination for you multi-classers) and why?

Wow... this is a good one. I love my Pally and Pally Ranger combo, but my fav is the WF Cleric with 1 level of Arcane and some decent strength for tanking when necessary. I haven't made one yet, but I'm tempted. I've seen one played and it was crazy.

    Question 4
Pick one word...any word... but only one.
