Warchanter Song and those Shroud Blades...

Hey, I always play my Warchanter song (since it doesn't get dispelled) before part 3 of the Shroud to provide DR 5/- to everyone in order to mitigate some of the damage from the spinny blade thingies. I assumed that this provided DR against ALL types of damage, as per its description, yet I noticed when I got in there and looked at the combat screen that it wasn't being applied and I was taking full damage.

Has anyone else noticed this?

It maybe a bug or the blades may be dealing epic damage (may or may not get past DR/-, cant remember the rules on epic vs non epic resistances).

The song should be blocking 5 points of damage.

It is likely that these are dealing trap damage. The effectiveness of dr/- versus traps was removed back in beta if I recall. It was really nice to get reduced dmg from spike and slash traps on my barb back then

Thanks for raising this. I usually try to sing that before going in to Pt.3, had assumed it would prevent damage. I'll check for it next time in.

What's weird is that Ironskin chant does work vs the blades in Pt.4 according to my combat log.

Right, it could be trap or magic damage and bypass DR. Bladestorms should be a "creature" like a flaming sphere and get attack rolls, but that's another topic.

I think they get past all DR types...I.E. bugged

They also bypass DR30/- from titan docent, needless to say that was a death dealing surprise in part 4.

I filed a bug report and suggest you do the same.


Edit: just a note here the Titan docent works agianst traps, so I don't think that is the problem.
