    Default Ranger question

I have a level 16 wizard and wanted to run up a second toon so I decided on a 14/2 Ranger Rogue: trap stopping, UMD using, ranged toon that could TWF when the going got tough. Well she is level 7.4 (6 ranger 1 rogue) can bust out traps as well or better than full rogues that I have ran with and UMD is 17 so I feel pretty good there. She is pretty tough with TWF will be better I think once I get tempest and Weap finesse added on. The issue I have is I took deepwood sniper and I am starting to think it sucks. Am I wrong? It does ok (not impressive) damage but I still miss with it sometimes, at current level with manyshot it's two arrows, and often when I hit it the thing I'm aiming at dies before the arrow leaves the string (dang guildie zerging melees LOL) Do others feel that this is gimped as you go up or does it become worth it? I didn't really want to go arcane archer because my brother is with his ranger and thought maybe I'd go the other way to compliment each other when we are running together. Should I dump it and go arcane even though I wasn't interested in it?

Since some will want to know stats with current equipment are 14 20 14 20 12 12.

Well, for one thing if you took Deepwoods sniper, you can't do tempest.

As to whether Deepwoods "sucks"? I have it on one of my pure class rangers and love it. It depends on what you want your build to be. It sounds like you prefer meleé.

Why 14/2? 15/1 gives you the 4th ranger favored enemy and another 4th level spell. Is there anything that 2 Rogue gives you that you have to have?

Evasion is the obvious one but if you can hold out to 9 Ranger you're good.

Default Am I reading it wrong?

I cant take tempest? I thought I could by picking up dodge mobility and spring attack then spending the AP on it are they mutually exclusive? I hadn't seen that? As for wanting to be melee I don't, I want to be ranged just not to the point I have to kite if the battle moves in. I am planning to take the extra level of rogue for the skills and evasion. For a trap finder is this unnecessary?

9th level ranger gets evasion. You're just a few levels away from it.

Ranger/rogues are generally recommended to have 14 INT, that way you can max Search, Spot, Disable, Open Locks, and UMD each ranger level. Have you been doing that?

I didn't know that rangers got evasion I need to look then and see if its worth taking the second rogue. Have been maxing UMD search spot, OL and dd then putting the leftovers in the other skills. Haven't had much trouble at all being the "rogue" of the party even on elite runs. As I said in OP usually am the better Disabler even when with rogue builds because I pump the extra points in. Can anyone answer the tempest question? Searched for an answer but didn't see it can you take it if your Deepwood sniper when you get the required feats? I thought I could have it by 9th or 10th level. I am a fairly casual gamer (4 hours 4 nights a week is all I can do due to real life commitments) so I need to get stuff right or spend months in the process of leveling. I really appreciate the help.

No, you can only have one specialized enhancement line. Either tempest, deepwood or arcane archer, not a combo EVEN if you have the feats. Sorry.

    Default Oh By The Way

You CAN have more than one line (ie. deepwoods and tempest) I decided not to do this with my toon but you can according to gm and a senior GM take two enhancements if you wish to spend the points on them. Not many will at current level cap imho as this means dumping all your points/feats into this.

Pretty sure you can take two lines if they come from different classes. But not 2 from the same class.

You could take Tempest (ranger) & Warchanter (bard), but not Tempest (ranger) & Deepwood sniper (ranger).

At least this is the way I've been lead to understand it, and a guildy of mine, though having all the required feats and enhancements, was unable to take Deepwood Sniper and Arcane Archer.
