Default My summoned monster is an idiot

Seriously, he just stops following me sometimes, like he cannot get past a low overhang. And sometimes there's nothing there that looks like it should stop him. And sometimes I have to go back and hold his hand because he got confused as to where I went. For those of us with small parties, the extra fodder of a summoned monster really helps out, and if I can get someplace, I would think that my efretti... who can fly... could get to the same place. There needs to be some rubber band teleport built in. If the summoned monster gets X number of feet away from you, he automatically appears by your side again. Thanks.

Maybe a side effect of the new pathing they put in for NPCs - Trying to find too many ways to go, and bogging down in the indecision. Just a SWAG.

I like the times my puppy will bark/dig/growl at a closed door with mobs behind it as the ones in the room with us are wiping the floor with my little squishy behind. He's cute - but not very bright.

One of the developers posted they are looking at some possible enhancements to summoned pets.

One of the things mentioned was being able to issue a "Come to me" command that would teleport them to you.

And make them a few CR higher at the higher summons (IV and up), cause they're pretty useless at high levels. Either that, or rename them to Summon Monster-Shaped Cookie IV. That would do it I think.

The summon uselessness came about the same time they did change all the patching.

Which, strangely, broke the timing for a lot of the lower level quests. See Sewer Rescue. The kobolds take forever to move away right at the beginning. Same with the human carrying the package in Information is Key.

Some new pathing broke the timing of older quests and they never bothered to go back and check on them. I haven't bug reported them, but I may do so soon.

Yeah I agree I love it when my summoned will run the wrong direction, stand still or as I had happen tonight keep jumping up and down as if he was ported the wrong way though it was solid ground and I had it where he should have landed fine next to me. Now granted on lower levels ive made the mistake of having the poor celestial dog fall into the water of WW. That was sad and funny watching him keep porting into the water someone actually yelled "its a dog it should paddle." either way summoned monster doesnt get used much by me anymore they just dont have the focus I need for them to have.

A "come to me" command would be great (can just re-click the spell icon, simple enough). I've had lots of times where it stops walking and I can't get it come forward.

And when my Elemental is unwilling to move, i've also tried luring some bad guys into the area to see if that snaps him out of it - i've had mixed results.

Anyway, the "come to me" wuold be very helpful indeed!

Basic puppy class obedience at least. Come, Sit, Stay, Attack, Maim, Kill, (okay maybe that's not in the real puppy classes). Give them the same tracking AI as mobs in the Vale and you'll never lose a pet again. Explain that to the wal-mart greeter when you walk in and the Gnoll that spotted you in the Vale two weeks ago is shooting arrows at you as you walk in.

    I don't think they're dumb.

I think while they were waiting for summons, they were watching old Star Trek re-runs in the summoned pet holding pen.

One of the efreeti figured out their similarities to "red-shirts". And now they balk at being invited along.

Like... "uh-uh...no way, I KNOW what you summoned me for......fuggidaboutit.....Kirk!"

In seriousness, no clue as to cause or solution, but I have noticed it as well.

gets a bit annoying when I buy summon monster 5 scrolls (the one that summons an elemental)

summon the ele----- buff him with a stone skin scroll ------ give him a bunch of resists

and watch as he stands right where I summon him and does not move

It then becomes a matter of dragging mobs back to him...... hoping one hits him(aggros him) to get him started again

it just becomes a waste of cash and i say .... "why did I bother"

I agree completely with the OP, and would like to add to any "Pet love" the Dev's want to give the following request:

Let us have some way to select our summonded pet other than clicking on them. A here 'boy' command would work - IF it makes them visible for a monent as well. Or let F7 (I realize in a Raid Group this wont work as most keyboards dont have F13, but minor details...) be for each players summoned pet, so we can select them.

The reason of this is so I can blur and possibly heal little fluffy the Hell Hound. I summon using my staff, and poof he disappears before I can buff him! And when the fight is over and I may choose to heal him, poof - he disappears on me again!

    Anyway, just a thought...
