Default Wiz with adamantium body viable?

I was wondering if I should go ahead and make my warforged wizard with adamantium body once I unlock my 32 point build. My plan is to make him the ultimate solo machine with great party power as well.

I really want adamantium body as it adds allot of armor and frees up my bracer slot, not to mention the sight of a wizard in all that armor is just plain cool! I figured his stats at creation would be 20 con, 18 int (with 32pt). All his level up points would go into INT, and he could eat a +2 tome of each stat (eventually at least).

Now I know the GREATEST problem is spell failure so this is what I am wondering...
    1. How bad is 10% spell failure with WF inscribed armor 3 + arcane sigil docent?
    2. If WF inscribed armor 4 and 5 eventually become available wont I have 0% spell failure?
    3. If a GREATER arcane sigil becomes available later wont I have 0% spell failure?

Is armor really that important? I hear many say it is not, but I figure it wouldnt hurt at least to have a decent AC. What do you think?

10% is a lot, and it's going to be a lot more than that for most of your character's life. Casting is going to suck, period.

I'm guessing you aren't going to want to carry around a shield (and negate the possibility of carrying around another useful scepter) which means your AC isn't going to be that great anyhow. Even with a tower shield, your AC won't be better defense than displacement/stoneskin/haste/jump in the long run.

There are better uses for docents than arcane sigil.

DR might be useful at lower levels, but again DR items and stoneskin will trump that soon enough.

Nobody knows if there will be greater arcane sigil or more enhancements.

    It wastes a feat.

You can achieve the same with mithral and dex tomes/dex items with less detriment to your build. Self-healing arcanes don't need that many hp anyhow IMO so 12 DEX isn't a dealbreaker at the expense of CON.

I solo on my Wizard all the time with a Sub 15 AC.

Had all my Orchard Slayers, Rares at 1500+ Kills at Level 12

Currently In the Vale at L13

SOlo Trial By Fire, Cabal for One, Feast and Famine, and so far Half of Madstone Crater at Levels 12-13.

    AC Means Nothing.

Haste, Jump, Displacement, Stoneskin, Reconstruct. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 28AC

I tried a wiz with a mithril body and changed it out by level 5 due to both the ASF and the ACP it was getting in the way of my stealth build.

Well, I made one with adamantine body to be a melee wizard....but he's only lvl 3 and I doubt he'll do well at high end.

I also have a lowbie multi-classed toon that was wearing heavy armor for awhile, and using a few wiz spells.

Also my main wears light armor and has 5 lvls of wiz......so, anyway I think I can give a little advice.

    You fail a lot!
if your casting buffs it doesn't really matter.
if you're like many casters and casting behind a raging brb........it doesn't really matter either.

But you fail a lot, and you waist a lot of sp.
And if you need to get that spell off quickly........gl.

Add a shield and it's a lot worse.

It's still a doable build though.......and one idea would be to take adamantine body and switch it out at a little higher lvl.

My Wiz15 doesn't take much damage.
Blur, Displacement, Haste, GH, Stone Skin.......good dex in my case, and sometimes a +5 Mithral Light shield......
Even though my ac is low by most standards, I really don't take much damage.

I used to carry +5 padded armor around for when I run out of SP.....but honestly I only got 1 more AC out of it, and fearsome robe was much better.....and even when I melee, I really don't take much damage........so I would say, after you reach high enough lvl to have some decent buffs, you really don't need armor.

But if you cast mostly buffs, you can get away with it.

I should add one more thing: AC is not useless. it means less at higher lvls.....practically useless in some of the highest content....but not useless.
Not everything you fight is a red named Dragon/demon queen.
And if you spend anytime at all doing quest below the max lvl of the game, you will find that a decent AC is nice to have.

Those casters that complain they can't solo Kobold assault on elite are the ones who said AC is useless.

Now, I'm not suggesting you spend alot of effort getting a high AC on a caster......but don't neglect it entirely.
In fact, I for one built my Wiz with a high dex and only a 10 con (higher now with items).....and I haven't regretted it yet.

Dex is the main source of AC for a Wiz.....Ref save is the most important in the game........being able to hit something with raned weps, or in my case wep finesse, is nice when SP is low......and I think I usually run with a mid 30's AC.
I won't be standing in front of any Orthons on purpose......but I'll go toe to toe with 5 wildmen in Ataraxia's haven with no fear. (buffed anyway)
