    Default Best 2-person WF combo

A friend and myself are looking to create a WF combo that operates well with a 2-person setup, is well balanced, has a good survivability, and is also capable of group play.

I was interested in some version of a WF caster/trap monkey, with my friend being some version of a WF tank/melee type that I could throw heals to when needed.

What are your thoughts for the best 2 builds that complement each other well?

    WF Wizard/Rogue x/1 & a Warforged melee focused Battlecleric.....

Just my opinion, but you should be able to handle just about anything thrown your way and probablly won't have a hard time fitting into groups providing the Cleric knows when to drop back and play support.

or you could replace the battlecleric with some sort of batman type with umd.

True that works also, lately I am pretty attatched to my BC, it's nice to be able to raise people & take care of any problems without spending cash (if I don;t want to) along with meleeing, casting Blade Barriers & Destruction

Forget about the traps, just run tru them.

WF wiz or Sorc + WF barb. Its a great combo because its simply the 2 best wf classes.

sorc can have the umd too, for the occasional specific healing (rare since wf are imune to so much stuff)

Two Sorcerers =-p Solid foundation for a group throughout the game, little rough at the start if you're strictly duoing, but starts taking off once you get to level 4 and get Scorching Ray, and only gets better from there.

WF Wiz and WF Barb FTW.

Barbarian is one of the best classes for a WF, and the WF Wiz can be a "cleric" or buffer for the Barb. Depending on the quest and/or party makeup, the Wiz can easily swap out spells to provide artillery support for the Barb's melee attacks.

I like WF sorc(with UMD, for emergency rez) and a WF barb. All out smack down.

    Or

A the WF WizX/rog1(or 2) and a WF ftr. For a more flexible, tactical feel.

Personally run a wf sorc/barb duo. Can we roll through any appropriately leveled quest that doesn't have some artificial requirement(wisdom rune, rogue skills, etc.)? Yes We Can!

So I think the WF Sorc, Barb sounds like a good duo. We obviously won't be able to deal with any traps, but with some of the insane DC they put on some of them, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing.

Now all I need is to find a couple decent builds for them.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

I run with a few buddies exclusively, and we run all WF caster/melee setups in small groups. Wizard 1 / Fighter X + Wizard is WAY more capable of handling adventures than Barb + Wizard. The issue is the Barb's lack of survivability and flexibility. The flexibility to go from a tower shield + initimidate + cleaves + phat DR inside a firewall, to 2-handing with trip or stunning blow vs. casters is huge. And fighters get enough feats to be really flexible:

    Power Attack
    Cleave
    Great Cleave
    CE
    Stunning Blow

    All before level 10? Redonculous.

For survivability just nab Admantium body and a moderate fortification item and you're 100% fortified, and with max DR you're at standing 6 DR before level 10. So you're only facing the difference between 6 and the max uncritted weapon damage from monsters when they can even hit you. Nice and steady, without any big spikes in damage.

The primary issue we have running Fighter + Wiz is lack of damage in certain situations. When that happens, you have to stack up the mobs, drop a few firewalls, and turtle up, adding DPS with cleaves. You should also make timely use of CC like halt undead to extend the duration of fights and give your melee time to crit his way through a lot of HP's as needed.

When we run Barb + Wiz duo it's great in certain instances, but when you really need a big mob tanked, the fighter's sword and board + CE is critical IMO. And the barb is just a general resource drag as the wizard either has to use tons of wands or his own spell pool to keep the barb topped off throughout the adventure, making the wizard feel like the Barb's personal towel boy.

If it were me and you were set on a Barb, then I would definitely accompany it with a Sorc though, as you're trying to just outdamage stuff at that point. No reason to be fancy!

And I definitely agree on just running through the traps.

The majority of traps can be traversed with a little creativity, timing and proper buffs. I would suggest Quicken for some of the really nasty ones.

    2 duo setups I use now/

    wiz/2rogue + pure battle cleric

sorc + 1rogue/ranger Str build dual fighter

both of these duo's can handle most traps and situations and make questing alot of fun.

we also have a trio of sorc, rogue/ranger and cleric....this group can accomplish just about anything
