    Post personal "evil" character observations

when I got DDO I was a little upset that there were no evil alingments... I love to play the villan....but after about amonth of playing I could see why it just doesn't fit here..the Devs have made a game for 'Heros" not "Villans"..the same as any good DM will make a session fit the palyers ( with out giving the game away..aka free gear and loot, though many seem to loe that idea even in PnP)

If any have played NWN 1 ( I used to GM..and MOD for about 3 years in NWN lands) it allowed evil aligments( but also allowed you make your own rules about how it was implimented...aka build you own world for others to play in.)..and let me tell you they were a pain in the tush..to build for, set rules for , and monitor..it seems anyone with a grudge likes to build an evil character to go about doing whatever they want..mainly grieve others for percieved slights ( whether real or imagined). it became such a problem on one server we had to divide it ..and made 'evil alingments" outlawed on one of the two servers( which only held 40 players at once, each..and kept 5 DM/GMs busy 24/7).... I stayed on the old server..and made plenty for evil alingned characters to do..since that was what I into at the time ..and had the time to DM evil quests and raids.

Unfortuantly GMs and the Devs have thier hands full with putting out fires at present ( ladders, and AH bugs come to mind right off..and also the 'Voice" in VON5 which HAS been fixxed) ..and I am afraid any MMO is gonna be pretty much the same...for the problems here HAVE to be 100 fold atleast to what I experianced in NWN 1 .

so do to lack of resources, need ( it is only a "want/wish" after all), and time.. I see no player based Villans anytime soon in DDO's future..and to tell you the truth ..I really do not mind..

P.S. I did however play with a PUG on a STK run that told the party he was chaotic evil and was gonna zerg wether we liked it or not ...LOL I was 3 days into playing DDO so it took me some time for me to get it ...needless to say ...Mr. Evil ..trigged the giant while the rest of the party was shrining....so we recalled ..regrouped without said evil hinderance..and did great...even short a man ( hehehe got my first ring of feathers that day..talk about noobie luck)

I like the idea of having quests where different people are (ideally, permanently) aligned with a certain house/faction and so they must defend them/aid them in some manner, while a different player group would be trying to foil them. While the idea is extremely appealing, it's also extremely abusable (one side 'throwing' the quest so the other side farms it, etc). Still, perhaps a way can be found to avoid the throwaway. (Min favor X to run the quest and you can't repeat it, f.ex)

As for evil alignments, I just contained the urge to post something sarcastic detailing why this is a bad idea. People jump on it because they think it's going to be "oh so cool, something different!1!111!" but these are the same kind of people who kept pushing for PvP. It simply does not work well in the context of THIS game, and I don't want a completely re-written game. (And even if I did, we're not going to get it. I mean c'mon).

Why don't you instead petition for a live pony with every subscription. That has a better chance of happening, and unlike this, it wouldn't affect the game in a detrimental manner.
Devs: Thanks for making Druids available to VIPs without the pack. This more than anything, has made me want to buy the pack.

My DDO wizard is evil. He gives away expensive items to guildmates and allies and considers himself a team player, but he is a murderer who enjoys the suffering of others. He doesn't care about the morals or politics of a quest as long as he comes back richer.
His character sheet has chaotic neutral as this is as close as I could get to a standard drow, but he wears an evil tainted necklace just so I can feel he is closer to the alignment I intended him to have. I get angry when he gets evil damage.
Trap the Soul is an evil spell. My wicked wizard mails soul gems to guildmate paladins in an effort to corrupt them. Let characters who sacrifice enough soul gems in a sacrificial altar obtain an alignment shift towards evil. A paladin who performs a sacrifice would have to atone to get back their abilities or switch to the blackguard trainer.
Being evil shouldn't make teaming difficult. Paladins don't seem to be able to detect evil that well anyway.
Evil people can be heroes and good people can be villains.
Who ended up destroying that ring in LotRs again?
