    Default Evil Alignments and quests?

Are there any plans in the future to bring about Evil Alignments and Evil themed quests into the game? Did a search on the forums and didn't find anything. As one who really enjoys playing the villains in D&D I would love to see this aspect put into DDO as well.

In the most recent ask the devs on DDOcast the Dev's said there are no plans to do this. It would create some very odd balancing issues for the game or some such. I also remember something that was said around launch about the idea of evil alignments not being what they envisioned for the game. Hope that helps.

One of the devs (or was it a producer) said last week in an interview that it didn't fit the game and they didn't plan to do it. (DDO podcast I believe...)

the ONLY way i see evil alignments showing up is if they create an all new city to start in, and new quests for it, basically it would be like the city of Villians version of DDO, nearly a completely seperate game aside from PvP areas.

This game is not complete until they account for the other alignments correctly.

Devs have also stated that evil alignments would foster griefing with people using their alignment as an excuse.

Additionally, it'd be useless. Unholy weapons were taken from the loot tables with the exception of craftable raid loot. There are maybe a dozen monsters in the game that are Good.

"The first six alignments, lawful good through chaotic neutral, are the standard alignments for player characters. The three evil alignments are for monsters and villains." - PHB, p104.

While not every character strives to be a hero, the majority of the quests and storylines in DDO make the assumption that the parties involved are not actively villainous in nature. (There are some exceptions, such as Purging the Heretics, but even Running With the Devils involves an unfortunate situation forced upon the party through duplicity.)

While I don't ever see PLAYERS being Evil (though...some are close at times)....if DDO continues to evolve, perhaps the ability to "DM" a dungeon will be available at some point. You could provide voice overs, even run the main villian in a PvP setting (it is the only "good" reason I have personally seen for the introduction of PvP.)

As others have said, Players using the Evil alignments is very unlikely to happen in DDO, and under the current set up, would have very little impact on the game (as players cannot attack other players in PvE missions, etc.)

I never did get the full story on this quest until quite recently, when someone explained it to me.

KUDOS to whoever came up with that one ... what a great story-line!

I think it would be awesome to introduce Evil alignments into the game. You could do so much with that. For instance.

Create a dungeon of which one group the "good alignment" group A, goes into a quest and beings clearing breaking boxes and they are on the look-out for an unspoken evil. On the other side of the same quest a different group, the "evil alignment" group B, goes into the backside looking to destroy good and vindicate a lost member or something of the sort. They met in the middle and battle to the end. Which ever group survives wins favor with their guild or something like that. With small mobs of hobgoblins or kobolds or anything for that matter on the way to the main fight in the middle and for the way to the ending door. No chest for an end reward just bragging rights to the winner. You could do this with a solo mission or group or even raid.... Tell me people wouldn't enjoy it?! I know I would LOVE!! it.

Yes, we need to dilute the pool of quests that we have by introducing and diverting resources towards quests for evil characters.
    Er...no.

No evil alignments makes sense in the city, especially without an active DM that will enforce the repercussions of being evil. A big thumbs down here.

I agree, especially with no DM to regulate how players react according to their alignment. Also, all the quests would have to be re-written to accomodate EVIL choices. Someone suggested having an alternate city that is incumbently evil, but this will still mandate all the quest and storylines being re-written. Who's to say that one of those EVIL players may wind up and make their way to Stormreach...

Indeed evil can work if there is an DM that can enforce the consequences of player actions.
That's also why evil campaigns tend to fall apart. PC's aren't supposed to be evil for a reason.

Well we can talk about the exception or we can talk about the rule.

Evil Alignments not required for this:

    Sovereign Host v. Silver Flame

    House Kundarak v. Free Agents

Blood of Vol v. Silver Flame

    Hosue Phairlan v. House Thuranni

I have a idea for a mission which could force people to fight against "good" mobs like running with the devils. Have two "good" organizations fighting over something (say silver flame and sovern host) and the players have to choose a side. Choosing a side will have its rewards and its penalties, but it will allow some options to players to role play somewhat.
